Great video, very informative. Didn't know that the training/type rating process was so involved but i guess it has to be to ensure the safety of first time jet owners. Wonder if the same process applies to overseas buyers ??

Does it have a fuel dump valve incase you were at max gross and had an emergency just after takeoff?
@eaachapter1508
@eaachapter1508 6 жыл бұрын
I thought that was covered in the video, maybe it was in the Q&A that followed. No, it does not have a fuel dump. If you have an emergency and can't burn off the fuel you'll just have to land heavy and risk it.

I like the plane. Given all the features. FADEC simplified startup. Garmin G3000 touch screen. Williams 5A Engine. Parachute Emergency Recovery System. 5+2 seating. 27k foot operating ceiling. Emergency o2 system, Pressurized Cabin. Real Time Builtin Weather Radar Dome. etc... You get a lot for $2M General aviation. On top of the lower operating cost of $650.00.. As a PT6A-60A is twice that much x2. As most are used in twins turboprops. That is $2000.00 an hour. At 55 gallons an hour for each one... That does not include the extra time they take. Teaching you for 30 days.. As that can add up in flight school cost.

Down sides noise they really need to fit better sound suppression, and active noise suppression, second whist the g2 can go to 31000 it’s not enough, it puts you right in the flow of traffic, finally the cruise speed needs improving when act think jet they think 350 + knots this cause issues on approach and slot on tier 1 airports often being out paced by heavy craft

it was a great video explaining the customer experience. If you can imagine any US Part 121 Airline captain has to go through the same certification process every 6 months. Its great to see that Cirrus has developed a similar training program for the average joe-for liability reasons or just furthering the safe flight experience.

@brianhanks8207
@brianhanks8207 6 жыл бұрын
Check the specs from Cirrus, the plane actually holds 2000 pounds of Jet-A which is somewhere around 300 gallons. The 172 gallons he mentioned was what he can put on when carrying 1100 pounds of passengers and gear.
@wayofaway
@wayofaway 6 жыл бұрын
172 isn't very much for a jet
@brianhanks8207
@brianhanks8207 6 жыл бұрын
Remember, that 172 gallons is at full passenger payload of 1165 pounds and still affords 1:45 with sufficient reserves (I think that is around 500 miles, but don't quote me). Normally he doesn't fly anywhere near full payload so his useful range is much higher.
@jarodmorris611

He said it was about enough (maybe a touch under) to have a 2 hour flight plus 45 min for IFR reserves as required.

Not sure what you mean. When Jay referred to the Cirrus Jet being the only single engine jet in production he was correct because the Honda is a twin so it is in a different class.
@quadsurvival
@quadsurvival 6 жыл бұрын
Cirrus does their training right for customers. Their jet on the other hand meh. You can get faster turboprops for that price and less and significantly faster jets for a little more.
@dennythomas8887
@dennythomas8887 6 жыл бұрын
but how many can be flown by a non-multi engine rated pilot? One of the selling points is you don't need a multi engine rating to fly it. That was really the point of the VLJ segment in aviation. All you need is a PPL and an IFR rating to bust into the flight levels for speed and fuel burn. These airplanes are aimed at the SR-22 or Bonanza pilot looking to step up. And the true cost of ownership is lower do to the fact you only have to maintain one engine vs two.
@quadsurvival
@quadsurvival 6 жыл бұрын
denny thomas except you need a type rating to fly the vision jet, so unfortunately no benefit can be had there. What I'm stating though is if you compare the vision jet to other new aircraft in that price range the jet does not fare well in range, useful load, or speed. Cirrus is aware of that though and marketing the aircraft towards a demographic that is more concerned about status than value at that price. The jet is great, innovative, and safe. It would not be my number one choice of aircraft in that price range though.
@brianhanks8207
@brianhanks8207 6 жыл бұрын
quadsurvival - I'm at a little disadvantage here because these aircraft are waaaaay out of my price range so I haven't paid much attention. From what I have heard there aren't many turboprop singles (twins increase your maintenance costs) that directly compete. Which aircraft do you see it competing against?
@quadsurvival
@quadsurvival 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian, no problem love giving out info. Like stated before Cirrus has a great safe product and its marketing and training department can't be beaten, but the jet can spec wise. Vision jets start at $1.96 mil and typical out the door price is around $2.5 mil with most common purchased options. We will look at aircraft within 20% of that price. The first is the Piper M500 $2mil and M600 $2.9mil single engine turborprops with a cruise of 260-274 knots compared to the vision's 300, but where these aircraft beat the Vision is useful load and range. The m600 has a full fuel payload of 632 pounds vs the Visions 498 M600 range is 1484 mile vs the Visions 1200 mile range all while using 35 gallons less fuel than the vision to go 284 more miles than the vision. Essientailly you get more range and payload for getting there a half hour later using less fuel. Additionally you can cruise at 30k feet in the M600 vs 28k in the Vision You can drill deeper to see how much fuel saving offsets the cost difference, but I'll move on to the next aircraft. The Eclipse 550 twin engine jet costs just under $3mil it has a full fuel range of 1125 miles with a 702 pound useful load compared to the visions 1200 miles on a 498 pound useful load. Additionally the Eclipse cruises at 375 knots at 41k feet compared to the visions 300 knots at 28k feet. In this case you get a much faster speed, a better useful load to only give up 75 miles in range, but get to 1125 miles away 45 minutes faster and using around 39 more gallons of fuel. There are more aircraft in this category, but I think these two are top compeitors. If you want to go faster with a better useful load there is an aircraft that beats the Vision jet in that price range. If you want to go slightly slower with better range, useful load and efficency there is also an aircraft that beats the Vision jet at that in the price range. Additionally the Stratos looks like an amazing jet, but it doesn't count until it gets into production.
@dennythomas8887
@dennythomas8887 6 жыл бұрын
The only turbo prop that is in the same price range is (we're talking new here not used) the TBM 850 at around 2 mil. the next one is the PC-12 double the price + 4.5 mil base. And the other point is ease of up grade for a PPL+IFR pilot, You said no advantage, Really? a type rating can be had in as little as 10 hours for competent pilot, whereas a multi engine rating + multi engine instrument rating are what, maybe 4 or 5 times that. Yes there is an advantage to the VLJ. I think it was either Plane and Pilot or AOPA that have video on KZfaq that compares all the price points and real world cost of ownership.

Bullshit......for the cost of the SF50, just buy a good used Premier 1.....single pilot rated...sips a little more fuel but nearly twice the speed as the lethargic SF50.
@brianhanks8207
@brianhanks8207 6 жыл бұрын
And then you're flying a used aircraft which, according to the Aircraft Cost Calculator, costs twice as much per hour to fly. I'm not putting down the Beech because it has a place but so does the Cirrus.

@brianhanks8207
@brianhanks8207 6 жыл бұрын
I think your idea of ripped off is not necessarily the same as a Cirrus owner. The Beech has two engines therefore maintenance is higher and so it costs roughly twice the amount per hour to fly. The Beech is used so you may be buying someone else's problems (seen that more than once). And the Beech doesn't have a parachute. For Jay's primary mission this is the perfect option. Plus it fits in the same hangar space as the SR-22 he had before this (I doubt the Beech would do that).

Bonanza successfully produced and sold the model 35 (V-tails) from 1947 thru 1995, I believe. I've flown for 40+ years, owned 4 aircraft and my V-tail is far & away the smoothest, nicest flying machine I've experienced.
