Crabbok, I'd love to see you paint some Star Wars Legion minis this way. I've seen a few other videos out there and the authors made the mistake of NOT using the Citadel contrast undercoat first (they used Army painter and other generic stuff). I think the contrast paints are going to be awesome for painting stormtroopers, but I've got to find the right technique to make sure they're not too gray and somehow get the white paint to pop. I'm going to experiment on other miniatures like you're doing here. This is one of the best videos out there that shows off a lot of the colors. Thanks for taking the time to do this, Crabbok!

I didn't realize there was a special primer for these. This actually looks a lot better than I expected for pretty minimal effort. Definitely good for base coating an entire army.

The dragon is awesome looking. Glad to see these real tests with the contrast paint. I’m thinking about picking up the fur color contrast for when I pick up Legion’s Wookiee pack

That aethermatic blue looks really good with the wraith bone

for painting smaller models put some blutack/poster tack on the top of a old pill bottle or paint pot and stick the base of the model in the tak. it will let you grip something larger and not get paint on your fingers. yet still have it pop off easy when done.

How much have you shaken the apothecary white? These new paints require way more shaking than standard paints as they have lots of sediment on the bottom

Got a tough time spending $15-25 on GW primer. Krylon is $6-8.

Great video much better visually than some others. I have only been painting miniatures for four years. I think that using those they look sloppy in my opinion. I have not seen any videos or pictures where they look nice. I know it is not for competition painting but from all the videos and pictures I have seen. They will not be a tool in my tool box. If they work for others I am happy for them.

I am interested to see how the White Contrast paint works over white primer, to add first layer to Stormtroopers (as it is basically a very light grey, that should settle in some recesses around the armour, before adding the black details. May really speed up Legion painting!

Seems like lot of works to paint small stuff ...is it possible to make paint more liquid and dip the miniature model in it to speed up the job?

The contrast wyldwood would be good for painting Wookiee’s. I always use a bone color spray paint to prime all my miniature, I think it’s a safe color.

Been thinking about priming with the bone/grey with a zenithal white on lighter themed minus, do you think that would provide a good subtle shading with these paints?

Really like the dragon! BTW, have you thought of using some poster tac and a plastic water bottle or soda bottle cap to attach the mini you're painting, so the paint doesn't get on your finger? Also, are you shaking the pots before using the contrast paints? Thanks for the videos!

Love the wood though - definitely looks like the Contrast paints are a hit/miss. Some of them are liquid talent tier (Nazdrag Yellow/Wyldwood) and some of them (Apothecary White) are simply not worth it.

Buying paint online is kinda annoying I wanted to try see what wraithbone paint looks like because I wanted to try use it but this is the closest I've found and am unsure if the base version looks like the contrast primer version

Nice to see some tests on the contrast paint. Still not completely sold on it, but could be useful. For the price I will likely pass. Though, I did like the color that resulted in the ghost-like effect, so I could see getting that color if I ever wanted to paint some ghosts.

I'm not totally sold on this line, but want to try out some colors. I got around 100 skeletons to go thur, so skeleton horde color could be a where to start...

That's weird about the white. None of the other videos I've watched have had it turn out such Gray

I've seen other people doing well with the white so I'm curious as to why you had such bad luck. Maybe the grey seer is a better primer for it

The contrast paints seem to be most effective at being slightly more than a basic wash and for blending with how fluid they are compared to their other products. Could you show some models painted with a color gradient scheme?

Played around with contrast recently I can tell you one thing, Warhammer daemons benefit massively from them

So.. . Apothecary White over grey primer looks like GREY. But even a normal grey, it doesn't have these shades as other colors, as Iyanden Yellow for example has. I tried to and i was upset to see IT'S NOT WHITE at all, and looks like a normal paint. 😢

Nice and informative.

I believe you are not getting the full ‘contrast effect’ the way you apply it, like especially on the wagon. These paints work by manipulating viscosity and surface tension, so you need enough on your brush to allow these fluid mechanics to work.

Have you tried experimenting with auto store primers?

Is it normal for this to be out of stock everywhere?

It's probably one of the worst primers I have ever used. It just doesn't stick to the miniatures.
