I was taking Citalopram for a couple of years for depression. It worked wonders. There were about 2 weeks of side effects, mostly brain zaps which are annoying but tolerable. It helped me focus at work, lose weight, and it put an end to my hot temper/anger outbursts. I worked my way off of it because I thought I was happy and ready. After 8-9 weeks, my depression flared up again, bad. I got back on it, 20mg, and I swear that first pill worked wonders, LoL! I'll try again some day.

I feel you, bro. It's hard to successfully come of these if you've been on them a while. I'm just irritable/angry when I'm not on them + low mood.

As frustrating and annoying it is that your depression flared back up when trying to come off of the citalopram, I'm happy to hear that it was effective in managing symptoms again when you went back on it. For a lot of people, they struggle finding something that works. @Luke This can be VERY true for many people. My approach is always to go slowwwwwww when coming off of these medications, as a lot of people will experience rebound symptoms or withdrawal effects. Dr. Aly

I'm 58 now , I've been on many ,many medicine in my life , but this emotional depression is becoming terrible for me,I just start crying and tears for no reason.

There is no pill or pills that take this stuff away. They only ( hope ) they help. Drs don't know what there doing ,mental health hospital don't know what there doing, there don't have the illness ... How you treat the systoms if you never had the illness ?? They read it from a damn book. .. Try living with the illness .. Stay off drinking, Soda, and all caffeine if possible.. If you smoke try and stop or cut back.. There are no pills that will make us all feel better, but Never say your sorry for not feelings good ..

Started on 20mg this weeks after admitting defeat to stress and anxiety which has taken over my life for years. Hoping this will let me lead a normal life.

I have been taking 20mg for a month now and for the first 2 weeks I had every side effect but I decided to keep taking it and now all the side effects are gone and I haven’t had a anxiety attacks or hot flashes due to menopause! I feel like myself again! Hang in there and give it about a month. It does get better!

@@kattvargyas3253 Hi Katt. So far side affects wise I am having night sweats and feeling sick but never sick. Truly need them to help smooth the anxiety over!

@@alymac1997 : I had really bad anxiety and for a few days when I first started taking this medication it amplified it! But it will get better and I haven’t had a anxiety attack in weeks and I feel like myself again.I know how difficult it is in the beginning but stay strong 💪 . There is a light at the end of the tunnel.

@@laugheveryday5870 good luck… If you are taking for anxiety it has definitely stopped my panic attacks and my general anxiety seems to be lower… ive only been taking a week and can take a few weeks to feel the full effects but definitely positive so far… I’d say I’ve felt abit groggy with them but nothing too bad… hope they work for you 👍

ive just started taking it, had a bit of nausea a few hours after, and reduced libido but im hoping it balances out! i feel calm otherwise

Citalopram has a half life of 35hrs. In other words, it takes your body 35hrs to rid your body of the chemical.

My anxiety is horrible but my doc wont prescribe benzos. I have cptsd and inomnia. i hope this stuff works for me. I wish my doctor was as well spoken and compassionate as you are.

That’s the first thing my doc put me on and it made me feel tired all day long, no energy but it stopped my panic attacks. Missing doses caused me to have anxiety and headaches. I wanted off them ASAP. They helped but the alternative feeling was not great. I want to feel an improved mood, not like a zombie.

How long does it take to work for anxiety, I've been on it 2 weeks now? I got covid and now I'm recovering, but anxiety is awful

Hi Annie- Thanks so much for checking out this video! Some people will start seeing results in the first couple of weeks and if you are one of those people, AWESOME! However, that is not the experience for many people I work with, especially those with anxiety. I always tell my patients to give it up to 12 weeks to see the full benefit of the medication at the prescribed dose.... which is a long time to wait, I'm aware :( If anxiety is to the point to where it is significantly interfering with everyday life and my patient tells me that they cannot function, I will consider prescribing an as needed (aka PRN) medication to help reduce anxiety during the time where the primary medication builds up in the system over those 12 weeks. Therapy is also helpful during this time because the benefits can be seen right away. I hope this helps and best of luck in your recovery! Hi Russ- Thanks so much for taking the time to check out this video and for asking such a great question! I apologize for how long it has taken me to get back to you. I had a baby at the end of August and I'm trying to get caught back up! Citalopram definitely can help with anxiety and panic. With that being said, addressing the core cause of anxiety- the grief- would also be encouraged. Many of my patients who have anxiety or mood symptoms that are secondary to grief will first start with therapy. If this fails or if symptoms are severe, then a combination of therapy and medication is often the approach we take. Does the liquid form have less side effects to the actually tablet

For most people, the side effects will be similar. The FDA medication insert that was used to help create the content in this video provided information on both the oral tablet and solution. However, it did not specify specific differences between the two from a side effect perspective. Thanks for taking the time to watch this video and commenting! Take your time. There is no rush. I recommend going to Drugs.com and looking at the side effect profile so you have a full picture of potential side effects. Remember SSRI side effects are usually time dependent. Dr. Rob

My mother is on 40 mg Citalopram since 2006. And her life is now without any depression - a little anxiety but shes happy and calm and can function like before depression. She says it saved her life. I just started 20mg Citalopram for depression and OCD/anxiety. 10 days in - only few side effects like less appetite and a little sleeping problems nothing much. After 10 days i can feel a very little effect on the depression and no anxiety - but its only 10 days and they say it can take from 2-6 weeks. So far so good. Im pretty sure it will work better in upcoming days.

I went into the emergency room of the psychiatric ambulance WITH a serotonin syndrome. She asked " Aha, what should THAT be?" so stupid. I managed it myself and got off my meds slowly. But honestly if it would have been extremely bad ... one can die. And then tere is a doctor who says "what should that be"? It is thanks to channels like these that i knew with what i was dealing.
