Great question! I get this question from many pilots new to the plane. It's a bit complicated and the reason we don't talk about it often is because it almost always works correctly and doesn't matter to the pilot. Basically it's a symbol which means the heading indicator is displaying accurate information as long as the vertical bar is between the + and the O. Here is the official description copied and pasted from the Primus 1000 manual: Compass Sync Annunciator - The compass sync annunciator indicates the state of the DG in the slaved (AUTO) mode. The bar represents commands to the DG to slew the indicated direction (+ for increased heading and O for decreased heading). The compass sync annunciator is removed from the display for any of the following conditions: - Invalid magnetic heading - Invalid flux valve heading

@@ambler71 , that's a great idea, I'll see what I can do. The Garmin retrofit avionics are nice for their touchscreens and ease of programming, but they do require some odd steps when it comes to tasks like an autopilot coupled LPV approach. It's not intuitive in that respect at all.
