MEGApolis with 80k citizen xD you need to multiply this by 100 to realy have a MEGApolis... but if they change the name of megapolis to great city then miltiplying by 10 to have 800k would be ok too... and i know impossible for cpu and so on but for me it would be enough to only simulite 1/10th of them because who could count all the 800.000 of them?

Impeachment is the process by which a legislative body levels charges against a government official. It does not mean removal from office; it is only a statement of charges, akin to an indictment in criminal law. Once an individual is impeached, he or she must then face the possibility of conviction by a legislative vote, which judgment entails removal from office.

What you had wasn't a "soft-lock situation", but rather a "desertification situation". What happens, is that one of the resources that offices need was getting too far away - Then the area become a "desert" where no officeman will go. Now, there are a few types of offices that can exist on their own, as long as they have educated workers. But most of them will need industry nearby - Now look at your town, and the pattern where offices stopped working. yup ... all of them almost the same distance from your industrial area. The solution is easy, put in a few buildings worth of industrial in your high density commercial zonings, and you'd be good to go. Don't make the areas too big, or you'll get air pollution woes, you just need them to "push" the boundaries that says "industry present". Much the same can happen to residential areas, if they have to drive too far to get to work, they just don't move in.
@tcommbee2
@tcommbee2 7 жыл бұрын
Didn't he build to few schools for offices as well? Or is what he shows at 41:38 good enough despite being in the red?
@Grumpy_old_Boot
@Grumpy_old_Boot 7 жыл бұрын
Sometimes, it takes a little while for the citizens to start going to school, so you could have an elementary school right next to a building complaining about lack of elementary school. At the same time, you can have the opposite, where all the young people grow up and become ol' bastards ... ie. gentrification ... senile old people don't go to school after all.
@loneRang3r
@loneRang3r 7 жыл бұрын
That's a completely non-existent mechanic :/ Office demand was always met so there was never going to be an explosion into the mass area he zoned, only a slow creep consistent with the growth of population, which is exactly what was happening, if you watch closely. When new offices (or any zone type) are building they favour high value land. The office area was expanding close the stuff that was offering value, which was around the existing offices. There was not enough demand to fill the 0 value land in the corner. At about 53:33 (as well as several other times) he goes through all the menu items and no services are covering that area at all. The area isn't even a consistent distance from industry, as you say, so that's clearly not the problem and it simply isn't a thing that exists in the game. No, there are not different types of offices that need different things (not counting workshop stuff here). All offices want the same stuff and consider land value based on the same things as all other office buildings. Their initial placement (land value) and their growth factors are all the same for every office building. The solution is easy, agreed but it's not industrial zoning, it's the 'seeding' (as he called it) of things that offices value (i.e. pockets of high value land; parks, public transport, police, fire, etc.). That said, it was pointless for growth, he was meeting demand by continuing to expand on the fringe of existing office areas (the area has some land value as it's closer to services but also, existing buildings offer some small value in a small radius, unless abandoned, in which case they do the opposite). The only way land value would impact him in the open space at that 55 (ish) min onwards (probably earlier) was office level, which is really inefficient for raw growth compared to new buildings; it's just good for income when you have no space considerations, as in this scenario.

What if he just went 0 taxes across the board for the last 15 minutes? Wouldn't that spur enough growth to shoot past this record?
@Taolan8472
@Taolan8472 6 жыл бұрын
To be fair he almost lost the run with that water/wastewater situation. That killed his growth rate, if he'd been able to prevent it from occurring he may have had the growth momentum to get over 80k before the industrial desertification became an issue.

@AEIOU Small scale grids are nice because it makes navigation easy. I think what makes his city such an eyesore is that it's all just zones. There's no tourism, landmarks, etc. Almost every city and town in America has a downtown area, a rural area, an unusually large park, a lake or stream, etc. Lots of distinct areas that aren't just urban sprawl.

So, really old video...but if you ever try to speedrun CS again, here's some tips: 1. Taxes should almost always be as low as you can possibly afford; this heavily boosts the amount of people that move into your city. 2. You caught this pretty quick, but it didn't seem to be as high on your priorities as it should have been. Educated citizens will pull more citizens into your city, which makes sense; no poor, uneducated, factory working pleb is going to tweet to their friends about how much they love life in their city. 3. Traffic is a big issue in cities which look great, even more so in cities which serve only to pull people in as fast as possible. The one-ways are great, but citizens will be much happier (And thus spread the word about your city) in a city where the commute isn't a nightmare. Consider plopping a very rudimentary metro system into your grid, it takes much less time than waiting for a highway connection to seed growth, and office spaces *love* being right next to a metro line. 4. While I understand the mechanics of the game have since changed and you didn't have to worry about this, citizens now care about the variety of the parks and gardens located near them. Don't worry about a city park, as it's time consuming and provides very little bonus', but consider doing tea gardens as well as yoga gardens which will also boost the health of your citizens, again, making them happier to spread the word about your city. There's potential for under 1 hour speed runs, pRo9aMeR has one.

I need to do a speed run, I feel like there were numerous small things that could have been done to speed things up, namely paying closer attention to make sure you place water and electricity correctly, had to go back a few times and fix areas, also I would have dropped taxes a bit right after metropolis but still had it high enough make money, also would have considered purchasing a air/sea or rail station to bring in additional people a higher rate. Also I would not be so quick to spend so much on roads, you lost money that could have been used in other ways to boost pop gain late in the game. I bet this could be done in 50 minutes or even less with those changes

Congrats bud well done! I'm curious, you didn't use any public transport, I wonder if that wouldve helped with the growth in the late game?

one thing that i would recommend to help with ranking up the buildings is do get a few bus lines places. they dont have to be useful. just having the bus stops near places will make land values go up for transportation. it would be a good thing to add while waiting for stuff to grow mid/late run. it may shave a min or two of your record if i were to guess.

I fee like the timer on this should be in the in game timer rather than a real time timer. That way if someone wants to play it slow but still gets the milestones in less in game time than others I think that should be fair. Then again there might be that type of speed run too.

If your map allows it, consider the pump and outlets on different waters. Otherwise, water tower is the only solution (or inland water treatment).

Very amazing. How in the world, though, do you have tens of 1000s with no buses, etc? Your traffic lines are incredibly huge, does it not affect the game at all? Also, why did you say you have to connect res zones, and I'm assuming the other kinds, too? Why do zones have to be touching similar zones to work?

You don't get Mark's point, Quinton. When the 20k loan is paid down 17k, you can pay 3k to get the loan again, and then take the loan out so you get 20k. In total you only get 17k back, but that's 17k more than the 3k you have in your balance.
