I was in middle school, and I had a group I'd hang out with. We would talk about videogames and stuff. We close, until the 6th grade, that's when things started going down hill. Before winter break started, they started distancing themselves without telling me what was wrong. Then they started calling me a stalker when all I wanted was to talk to them. Once school started back up after break, they would not talk to me or anything. The rest of middle school, I stayed by myself, not talking to anyone else. I started reading books outside. The thing about books is that they don't judge you, they don't criticize you. Sorry if this was a little long.

People don't seem to like me very much as a person. More like a concept. Y'know, they don't talk to me on a daily basis or try to befriend me, but they all know me for being the small, quiet, smart kid. Everytime someone did try to talk to me, it was obvious that it was out of pity. If they kept at it for more than a few days and I eventually got to the point of being comfortable enough to talk back, it wasn't long before they left. Once, there was a girl who seemed like she really did care. Like she really did want to be my friend. She would talk to me almost every day at lunch because we didn't have any classes together, and she would sometimes even seek me out when she had nothing else to do. It felt amazing. Then, Summer went by. I didn't see her hardly ever once the new year started, and she stopped finding me on her own. I saw her once, walking to a class. I smiled at her. She looked right at me, then looked away and walked faster to pass me. I don't think anything else she could have done would've hurt as bad as that did. Ever since I became the object of pity, I've had an incredibly hard time believing anyone could actually want to be my friend. They all leave sooner or later. So I do other things and I try to stay out of the way. I've always been the kid sitting alone with a book. I know how it feels. I don't know what else to be at this point. I hope you don't end up like me. Sorry for rambling. I'm praying for you💙

Middle school sucked, high school was a little better but even after that you still lose friends and maybe stay in contact with one or two for a little while. I hear in college your friends stick better in your life, but always be true to yourself, follow your goals and dreams and live life to the fullest, if they wanna leave your life it wasn't meant to be ❤

This song really made me think on my past, when there were "friends" who manipulated me, backstabbed me, called me names, and talked horribly of me behind my back, painting a warped picture of who I really am to others. Thank you for for giving me the confidence to take a stand if it is ever to happen again. And thank you for creating this song.

I'm 14, I've been dealing with depression and self hate issues for a few years now. My parents can be toxic, it's not purposeful and they don't realize it half the time. I broke down a few days ago, and my parents know I like music and they asked me to share a song on how I felt. I shared this song, and my parents kinda dismissed it saying there was a lot going on and they couldn't deal with it at the moment and asked if we could talk about it in a few weeks. No one seems to understand me, they push and pull and I'm never good enough for them, an A means nothing to them because my sisters get straight A+s. And I don't even know what I'm doing with my life anymore, I feel broken and alone. I don't even know what to do. Sorry this is so long, thank you for listening.

I can relate, I'm 22 now. And still feel broken, i fucked up my school, didn't graduate, tried different schools for 5 years. But been too sick to make it through them, can't keep a job, feeling like I'm at the rock bottom, don't even have enough money to eat most months. You are still young, and have alot more fun things in your life waiting for you, new friends, maybe closer relationship with your family, it all takes time, but try to find something you enjoy, keep your head away from the bad things, find healthy hobbies. But never ever let someone else define you. YOU are special, you are the only YOU in the world. Sorry for blabbering, i just Hope you well & remember life has many many many things to offer, but you have to do something yourself, it won't just come by it self. Have a nice day/night ❤️😌

I'm 15, almost 16.. Dealing with trauma and maybe a bit of undiagnosed depression, or at least what I think are symptoms of it.. Haven't told my parents yet, only a few close friends.. I have a lot of song that relate to my feelings sometimes, and this is one I'm adding to that mental list. And I'm dealing with the same feelings of not feelings good enough with my grades (same with my sis getting A's), and I've been broken and scarred by my traumas even this young.. Recently even tho yesterday was Thanksgiving 2022 for me, the last few weeks have been difficult for me with feelings of self doubt and just how much I feel like I've pushed on my own friends that I can trust with talking about my traumas. Hopefully your still doing well! Thanks for listening as well, find a way to finish this year strong!❤‍🩹We are not alone!

Im not kidding when i say that u guys actually saved my life. I was at my very lowest of the low and was thinking about ending it all. Same, the main reason I started listening to Citizen Soldier is gone (I think) but I still find their songs so relatable and amazing and I will never stop listening to them, really sorry if that doesn’t make sense, autism makes your brain jumbled (autism is also the only thing I’ve been officially diagnosed for but I’ve done a lot of research and suspect I have plenty of other mental disorders and illnesses, to bad getting diagnosed costs money), sorry for complaining 😔

I’m a 22 year old who’s still living with their parents. Music is my main way of decompressing when I’m in my own head, I like to be alone most of the time, and I consider myself an extremely selfless person, much to my own detriment. My dad is a narcissist who thinks that every attempt to help him is forced instead of voluntary, so it’s not good enough, yet he constantly seeks my help for anything from vehicle maintenance and yard work down to menial tasks around the house. He gets angry and threatens me anytime I ignore him and listen to music to calm my nerves, making it impossible to calm down or even be alone with my thoughts. And the only ones I’m able to keep in my head are self destructive, because I never feel like what I do is enough, no matter how hard I try. I don’t know whether to let this go like I have been and deal, or just drop everything and start over on my own, because it’s terrifying either way

"You criticize until I break and fall" remind me of the one person I thought wouldn't hurt me, ended being the one who shattered me. He tried fixing me and all it did was drag me down, I actually believed I couldn't be myself around him. I wasn't the way he wanted me to be, and it hurts knowing he 'reached his limit.' Your songs and my family are two of the things that help me, and I know I'm stronger than before as a result!

Took me in a place I was born from, but don't belong there for a reason. I only went there to visit. My aunt wanted me to go to college there. My mom didn't like that. And I sure as hell didn't like that either. So I didn't do it. Kept being myself and stayed doing my own things! Making that choice helped me stay more human. I can't cut them off from my life, but I can always visit at anytime. No blood and bruises on my name. 😤😤😤💪🏾💪🏾🔥🔥

It’s hard to say how much this song resonates with me. I was in an abusive relationship for 10 years and my self confidence and self esteem took a huge hit. I reached my end limit when she hit me in front of a couple friends, I left and it’s been a struggle how much I miss her. This song will be going on repeat to remind me. Thank you so much!!

0:50 all of those words/phrases in the background have been said to me many times by the one person that I, like many others about their parents, thought I could count on. This song really resonates with me just like the rest that I've come to love from this band. I am absolutely speechless. This song speaks so much and brings back memories that I wish I could forget. I always feel like I'm a disappointment to my dad, and sometimes he even tells me straight up that he's disappointed in me among so many other things. I wish that I could walk or away, or that he'd listen, but until I'm out of high school: escaping reality it is!

It gets better. I promise. My mom was like that, wildly verbally abusive. Used to tell me that she wished she had aborted me, that I ruined her life, all that shit. And if you hear it enough, you start to believe it. So anytime you start to feel that way, any time you start to wonder if your dad is right, I want you to think of my words instead, ok? Write them down some place of that helps, and every time you need to, read them again, over and over. You are enough. You are worthy, you are amazing. You deserve to be happy, and one day you will be, bevause I promise it gets better. So just hang on

I swear every song yall make touches me deep. I was raised by emotionally and mentally abusive grandparents, and man it did feel like this constantly. I was the "gifted child", the art on the wall, that they *still* constantly criticized until I broke. I've escaped, and I'm picking up my pieces slowly. It's a process, but songs like this help show me I'm not alone.

When you sing the chorus it’s makes me think of what I would love to be able to say to my family. For them everything I do is never good enough. I would get 100% in some classes in high school but they would only say that I should have worked harder in those I got 90%. I got into one of the most prestigious university in my country but they told me that since I don’t have a job that I’m lazy. I’m so tired of my family constantly saying that I don’t put effort into anything and that I’m never going to do anything good with my life. If only I had the courage to tell them that enough is enough and that I’m breaking inside and that I’m so tired of hiding everything… All this to say I love your music and you take a bit of the pain away with everything song you write 🙂

"Always on trial in my head" I'm 21 and I have borderline personality disorder, to me that quote explains the biggest struggle of them all. Most of the times I don't know whether I'm overreacting on things or I have the right to feel the way they make me feel, relationships are a struggle for me. It's like having a really bad person inside of you that sees the world in a gray color, usually it's hate, disgust towards others and yourself. Someone always questioning your decisions, your authority, making you questions that constantly evaluate the actions of other people whether they can be trusted or not. Took me a while to understand that I just can't have a relationship with anyone because of my irrational fear of abandonment ends up hurting the ones I love and loved. So, instead I just distract myself from my "problem" with things I enjoy. Unfortunately maybe I won't ever get to experience happiness without asking myself whether I'm truly happy or not all the time. It's a constant reminder but I'm trying to at least feel happiness through the use of a placebo such as my hobbies and the company of my friends. I'm not dead as long as I'm able to reason and think by myself.

I didn't even think i needed this right now but here I am, almost 2am covered in goosebumps from these lyrics and wonderful arrangements and crying while discovering this magnificent song. It's very impressive how you guys tackle so many different situations with just one song each time. A true gift. Every line hits perfectly, especially "you hang me up like art on the wall, you criticize until i break and i fall" and "you'll try to fix me till I'm dead" , reflecting the pain caused (in my case) by a narcissistic/gaslighting parent, yet feeling so powerful and empowering at the same time...
