HubNut attended the Citroën Centenary UK celebrations at Coombe Abbey, Coventry, which included invading Motofest Coventry!

I have never seen so many Citroens in my life, some I have never heard of. So many interesting cars and many other things to see. The addition of the external footage really brought the chicane action to life too. I went to a big car show in January this year with hundreds of cars and there was only one 2CV! It is great to see that there is such car enthusiasm, enough to close off streets. Wonderful stuff.

Thankfully Jerry Dammers' 'Ghost Town' has reawoken as Coventry's symbol the phoenix from the flames of Thatcher. It gave them opportunity to extend their museum into the pedestrianised city centre. There's plenty of room to do the same thing in Detroit but the cars would be up on blocks with the wheels and doors removed if you were fool enough to leave one parked for more than 10 minutes.

I think this is our fourth visit to the Coventry Motofest. It's a fantastic, albeit sadly unique, event that is a definite highlight of our year. We come for the sprint, we stay for the cars, bikes and general motorised mayhem! This year, the mayhem was brought to you by Citroens. Tharsands of 'em.

Well, I grew up a car nut, but there's no getting round the fact that there are just too many cars, and people are using them too much, especially in cities, which get unlivable as a result. So, I think it's only natural that the car has to give way to improve living in cities. I never thought it would come to this, but there you have it.

Simply amazing. I can’t imagine any city here in the US that would pitch in so enthusiastically for a motoring event, to the extent of closing a ring road. Bravo, Coventry! The Citroen overload was just delightful. I think I’ve seen three 2CVs and a Burton in my lifetime, and those were in museums. Citroens are such intriguing machines... vive le difference, and so forth. I love their innovation and independent thinking. Thanks, I thoroughly enjoyed this one!

I've never seen so many decrepit old crocks in one place. How they all made it there in one piece is beyond me. The cars, on the other hand, are wonderful‼️

Yes, the A-Series Manta was a fantastic design, very graceful indeed. Broadspeed made a turbo version of the 1.9 which also gave it pretty serious power too...

@@MGBetts1 I totally agree. Most vehicles look like other makes, and no differentiation between models. A BMW 745 looks like a 335 and 535, just stretched. Same goes for MB and Audi. Even Cadillac a ATS looks like a CTS, you cannot tell unless you look at the trunk (boot in the UK) badging!

Great cars and good to see Coventry where i grew up in the sixties/seventy`s. 2 of my uncles worked in the car factories and there was a lot of them. Up until the nineties you could get in any car blind folded and know what it was by the smell "oh those pvc/vinyl days" from a 55 year old car lover. Nice one HubNut

Absolutely awesome day on Sunday. It was great to meet you (albeit in an alleyway near Coventry cathedral) and Elly! And oh boy I didn’t get to see you on the ring road. Looks like you had more fun than I do as a 17 year old driver on there on a Friday evening when everyone else wants to get home in as fast as possible, but that’s another matter.

A total failure by Austin, far too heavy with a bloody great 4 litre RR engine, difficult to work on as everything watertight so it could be driven through 5 ft deep or more water with snorkel fully extended, hopeless off road as limited suspension travel. It's failure lead to the lightweight air portable Land Rover and the Fwd Control 1 ton Land Rover as a light Artillery tractor with a PTO driven trailer.

I must confess, I was never a huge Citroen fan back in the day, but looking at them all now, I was mad! They were all so different to anything else then and now. I always liked the CX Load Runner though!

I drooled all over my phone watching this...so many 2cv's in one place! I've decided there isn't a single color on them that I find offensive...although my favorite is the burgundy Charlston with black fenders! Quite a nice time, thanks for sharing! ✌😁

I need that six wheel C15 in my life! Failing that, the Standard Atlas would also be rather pleasant. And I do like a CX too, especially if it's a six wheeler estate. I like vehicles you can sleep in. Of course, there was the C15 camper van but a ready made camper? Where's the fun in that?

I spotted a bright blue 'blue lagoon' Cactus in the convoy line up, the same colour as the Citroen Cactus I owned for nearly 3 years. Nice cars

Ah Ian that was great, my father had a vanguard, twin rear doors, in the mid sixties, worked on a few 2CVs that close friends had 30 odd years ago, engine tune ups, can't remember the dwell angle but can remember having to hammer a 16mm socket on to the well seized 17mm rear brake adjuster nut, it lost the argument then. In case someone dosen't know, the chevrons on a Citroen are Andre Citroens' double helical gear teeth. Although i'm sure ive seen something like that on some pre motoring age wooden machinery.

A tremendous video, learnt a lot about Citroen's, even though I own a Traction Avant. The Centenary of Citroen's was well covered by you and well presented, both at Coombe Park and Coventry. Well done keep up the good work, Alan Large Staffordshire.

That Invacar is in brilliant condition. I crashed an Austin Gypsy in my youth I was working for a local garage and though I could reverse it into the compound I missed the compound and hit a wall and since I was not supposed to be driving it I got sacked.

Similar fate here. at 15 I had a full driving license in New Zealand. I had an after school job driving for a supermarket . They had one of the last Morris Minors built, brand new, as a delivery van. I had to polish the van every Wednesday and it was the co owners pride and joy (he led a shallow life amongst the aisles).A customer drove between me and the curb one day,and i got the sack for scratching her car...

Shame I wasn't about to see this, but the Porsche 914 anniversary was great to see at the Porsche museum lots of bright coloured little sports cars. Plus I spotted a few other cars around Stuttgart including a citroen SM and 2cv van

ooooh,a Tata safari !!! I considered purchasing one to replace my Gurkha when it retired. Couldnt find the right one though, ended up with a modified 306 Turbo diesel. that was a thoroughly enjoyable video ian, nice one.

Thanks for a great video of this fantastic event Ian :) I've come to appreciate old Citroens so much more since subscribing to your channel. Love the Acadiane Vans, 2CVs, BX, XM, AX to name a few! Citroen used to be so innovative in terms of design and engineering, sad that's lost in their current new car range C4 Cactus apart maybe.

Another couple of things about slough built traction’s, they were 12v not 6v, and slough cars were rhd. Love the axgt cars, I’ve had 2 of those. Amongst my previous citroen fleet.... dyane6, c15d, axgt, ax11, cx22, cx25gti turbo, BX turbo d, bx16v, zx volcane and currently a c5 mk2.

Love the Daimler Ferret! My grandad worked with its predecessor the Daimler Dingo in the 1950s and I believe that car was not an Austin Gipsy but instead an Austin champ, my grandad learned to drive in one of those. Loved the video Hubnut wish I could of seen this spectacle with my own eyes.

Looked like an amazing weekend, so many 2CVs, utter heaven!!! :D Just makes me wish I could have saved my BX back in the day, those 1.9L XUDs certainly have a nice sound to them (unlike the endlessly cranking Vivaro with fuel delivery problems I'm hearing across the road from me right now!!), proper era of diesels, when they sounded like diesels... :)

Excellent Ian, really excellent. Thoroughly enjoying it, still only part way through. Even for an ex stock car/banger driver I found the Coventry ring road, with it's figure 8s every few yards quite scary, until you got used to them.

Have to say Ian that's an Austin Champ near the end. I had one, non registered for the road BUT it has a Rolls Royce engine. So I have actually owned a Rolls 4 x 4.

A very enjoyable video about classic Citroens. My favourite Citroens are the classic big ones. The XM, CX and the DS, for their style and comfort. But if I was to own a Citroen I would have to downsize. A classic Xantia, Bx or the C2, 1st gen C3, 1st gen C4 hatch or coupé. Decisions, decisions. I know it probably won't be your thing, a car from 2001. But a good example Citroen 1st gen C4 hatch/ coupé would be my first choice.

*Really* enjoyed this video! - highlights for me were the ID19 with that wonderful front-end treatment, but also the Triumph Herald at 43:01. Why the latter? Because my father's Zodiac was LEW 469H.
