This is sooooo helpful. I have a potted baby meyer lemon tree that just lost all of its flower buds after I moved it inside for winter. I was feeling like a failure, but now I know what to improve to keep it healthy. Thank you for putting my mind at ease!

Great information. now I can stop stressing out about the fruit drop on my potted Meyer Lemon tree. After three years it's finally established and has a big crop. First year I' battled poor drainage, where it almost died from root rot, - only had two leaves on it., took two years to recover. Third year I battled a leaf mold. Now I'll keep my fingers cross, maybe repot next year.

Hi Chad, Good info. We had a 14 acre Chestnut and Persimmon Orchard in North Florida in the 90's. It was heartbreaking to knock blooms and baby fruits and nuts off our 1st year trees. But a good lesson to go by.👩‍🌾👍

Super helpful. I treated myself to a crazy expensive australian red finger lime and I’ve kept it alive for a few years now. This is my first season with fruit but it has started dropping leaves (and some fruit) and I’m resisting the urge to panic and overreact. Also about to overwinter my lemon tree and that always makes me nervous. Love this channel and am happy to see how it’s growing!

One mistake a lot of people make for potted citrus is not watering enough in the winter, not watering enough in the winter can prevent the next set of blooms entirely.

Thank you so much for posting these! I have a 7 yr old grapefruit tree I’ve raised from a seed. It recently dropped all it’s leaves after a valiant fight against scale bugs. Hi Steph! Absolutely. Your tree will more likely than not be perfectly fine. My father-in-laws variegated eureka lemon tree was full of scale this past year. I mean ever branch and limb was loaded. Make sure that you kill and remove all scale from the tree first thing (which Im sure you have already done anyway). I simply use a horticultural oil to kill them. Thank you so much for the kind comment. Keep me posted on the progress of your tree! 7 years is an extremely long time, so don't give up.

Very interesting, not what I was originally after but a great video all the same. I have a few citrus trees, a marderin, lemon, lime, and a lemonade. A couple of years ago I potted then and moved them to the patio, out of the frost. They’re all heathy but set fruit in the autumn, what do I do, I live in NZ, so it’s autumn now 😁. I assume I should remove the fruit but will it fruit again next spring?

Great to find your videos. Really helpful. My lemon tree is 6 years old and has never been out of the house. I grew it from a seed started under a grow light and now lives permanently in the west facing window. (I should also mention that I'm in Calgary Alberta Canada. ) I had a bout of spider mites this fall and sprayed with Bug B Gone insecticidal soap to get rid of them. Since spaying all the leaves are falling off. I've never had this issue before so I'm a bit concerned that I may have damaged it to the point of killing it. I was just wondering if this is possible or am I just freaking out because the leaves are falling off for the first time.

So I have a potted lime tree that's going through its second spring, both years it has flowered well with many baby fruit, last year it thinned off all but 1 lime which grew out well, this year also gave many baby limes but currently most have thinned out with only a few left & not sure if any will thrive. I live in Southern California w mostly warm weather and just wanted to know how often I should water it, and if my tree needs to be more shaded or if it's ok in direct sunlight? I currently water once a day or every other day w a slow feed fertilizer. Let me know what your thoughts are thx!👍

What if my lemon tree is flowering and then the bees are knocking off the flower pedals from pollination? I usually see a bunch of pedals on the ground in the afternoon. Also, I deep water for 10 minutes once a week (desert climate) and began fertilizing once a month. Do you think that’s fine for the spring/summer?

You barely touched pollination. My tree is maybe 1-2 yrs old and in a self watering pot. Flowering and fruiting like crazy until I brought inside (temp drop). Now, flowers are dropping and the 4 lemons I had are now 2. Leaves are ok, not great but she experienced cold before I brought her in (high 40's) . I have Jobe's fruiting tree spikes in the pot, water level is constant and the PH looks good, 6ish. I'm not looking for a lot of fruit but am curious about pollination since it will be inside for 5-6 more weeks. Talk to me about this so I know what to expect and how to anticipate the next season/stage. Tx, Joanne FL, Z9a.

@PlantFanatics
@PlantFanatics 2 жыл бұрын
If the tree is receiving large amounts of light, either from a southern window, or from sufficiently powerful artificial grow lights, then the answer is yes. The tree should continue to grow, fruit, and flower all winter long. Typically low humidity levels inside the house become the largest hurdle to overcome while indoors. The results of low humidity typically end in leaf drop or tip burn (neither of which will kill the tree). So if the tree continues to grow, flower, and fruit during the winter, then absolutely fertilize them. If you see leaf drop and stalled growth, then stop the fertilization. And I recommend you make sure the plants go almost to complete dryness in-between waterings when in an indoor environment. Citrus are prone to root rot while indoors.

It sounds to me as though your tree simply needs more time to grow and develop. It will produce fruit for you soon, just give it a little more time. Give it 6-8 hours of full sun a day, adopt a regular feeding schedule during the spring and summer months, and allow the tree to come to nearly complete dryness between waterings. Do these things and you will have tons of fruit in no time!

It’s always necessary to be on a feeding schedule. It doesn’t matter whether you use a granular feed or a liquid feed. But generally I recommend an organic granular fertilizer once a month. The amount depends on the size of the tree and whether it’s in a pot or in the ground.

Yes. A fruit has to develop over time until ripeness, when it will become soft.

Look up a product called Gnatrol. Water with this product following the given instructions as often as necessary to kill the larvae in the soil. Also buy a fly killer to spray in the area to get rid of the flying Gnats. Also grab a fly sticky trap to hang by your plants. All of these things in unison will destroy the gnat population. Good luck!

Why are aphids attacking my Meyer dwarf lemon but not my dwarf Clementine Mandarin next to it? I am using DE and water jet from sprayer to get rid.

There are a multitude of reasons why aphids might attack one plant over another. Most of the time I've found it to be that one plant may be struggling with health issues more than the other. Of course thats not always the case. Sometimes its just simply that they haven't found their way to the other plant just yet. Either way its best to have a regular feeding schedule for your trees, and treat the pest issues as soon as you can. Those are both good methods of removal. I typically use a mixture of neem and dish soap in a spray bottle to get rid of them. I apply it for a series of 7 days to make sure the problem is fully resolved. Aphids are extremely common, and every gardener will deal with them multiple times throughout their gardening career. Thanks so much for the comment and support!!

Hello, I have a lemon tree in container/pot and I live in New York. I keep it outdoor during summer and bring it indoor during winter. My tree only flowers in January (winter) and didn’t fruit until this past January for the first time. Unfortunately, all fruits fell off, which was very disappointing. Do you suggest that I should use a fertilizer all year around? Also, is it possible for my tree to flower in summer or will it continue to flower only in winter? Any advice will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Hi! Lemon trees are notorious for blooming and fruiting all season long. Unlike many Orange trees they are not held to a single bloom time. Does the tree get enough light indoors? That can be a huge cause for fruit drop.

In my home garden there are five citrus trees, a few of them fully bloom flowers but surprisingly ,the fruit develops some disease, trees turn in fruit fall or with shrink sized fruit. a couple of years back I had filled earth which is less porous, perhaps that led to slow watering process , ....can u guide me what should I do now to deal with. Another issue is of fruit-flies which led my Guava trees being victim to larva. Kindly help me.

I have little black ants that likes to crawl on my hibiscus and key lime tree …. Should I be concerned with the baby limes or anything else? No aphids infestation.
@PlantFanatics
@PlantFanatics 2 жыл бұрын
The reason I would take care of the ants is because the colony will get larger and larger. They’ll build homes inside the pots of your plants and soon you won’t be able to get near your plants without getting ants on you.

Fertilization schedule with a balanced all purpose fertilizer, correct temperature ranges being met, don’t overwater, and proper lighting conditions. Meet those requirements and your tree will thrive and give tons of fruit for years to come. 😀
