In the 2009/10 season we reached the Championship play-offs for the first time and faced Leicester City over two legs. On May 9th 2010 we were 1-0 away winners through a Peter Whittingham free-kick, but in the second leg three days later at Cardiff City Stadium found ourselves 3-1 down on the night and 3-2 down on aggregate. A Whittingham penalty levelled the aggregate score to 3-3 and it went to extra-time and penalties. On one of the most dramatic nights since we moved to our new home, we won the shoot-out 4-3 with Leicester’s Yann Kermorgant missing with a weak effort to send us through to the Final at Wembley.

No game in the 31 years I've been supporting the Bluebirds has put me through the emotional ringer like this one. It had everything and every emotion possible. When we got through to the final I literally burst into tears because at one point I thought that we'd thrown it away again. One incredible night of football. Such a shame this team never got the success it deserved by getting to the Premiership.

RIP Whitts and RIP the man who died of a heart attack at the ground that night! I was there and remember this night very well. My pulse just returned to normal yesterday, and now you upload it for me to suffer through again....

Matthew John same as me right behind the goals on the penalty shoot out I was even too young to understand it was in the play offs thought it was an average cup but now I look back in think what a game it was

One amusing thing about this is, their rugby teams met at the same stage of the Heineken Cup the previous year.
