In early 2010 a new waste collection contract commenced for the City of Sydney, with URM taking over the job, much to the absolute dismay of the existing Veolia employees. As they do best, URM put a dirt cheap tender in and got awarded the contract, likely providing a shit service with a high turnover of staff like most of their contracts - well done URM! Once the contract changed hands, the service also changed with new red/yellow lidded bins rolled out to properties for the existing weekly garbage service and introduction of weekly comingled recycling. A diverse fleet of trucks also services the city region... small, medium, large, MJE, SPAK, Heil, Garwood, Iveco, Scania, Isuzu, Hino, UD, etc. Like the company’s other fleets, the City of Sydney workforce has changed over time, with plenty of second hand purchases and used bodies mounted to newer trucks. Although shockingly URM actually put a few brand new trucks to work in the beginning, two of which feature in this video. However, note that these late model ACCOs were originally bought to service the company’s C&I customers, but in the end they were directed to the Sydney contract. Anyway I’m over talking about a shit company working a shit contract... so there are two identical trucks in the video, one on garbage and the other on recycle, both SPAK bodies on 2009 ACCOs and seen working through Glebe on a Friday morning a couple of months into the contract. A big thumbs up from me to the recycle team going hard out, they're definitely worth more money for their effort. I actually jumped on the truck with them for a run after the videos... funnily enough this was the working day before I would start with URM fulltime in Warringah.
