One of three different trucks the city runs for bulk.
Tolleson is a super small city near downtown Phoenix many don't realize is its own city. Not too long ago, the city ran bulk routes weekly, and upon realizing their residents aren't actually generating a refrigerator and microwave every single week and that the majority of waste they collected was illegal dumping, they closed out their alleys and converted their residents to curbside trash and recycling with individual carts rather than 300s. Unfortunately, to help with the over $1 million they spent on bulk in a single year (mind you, this town is a mere 5 sq. miles) they started collected bulk annually. For whatever reason, I was unable to film their bulk collections last year but this year they moved up to quarterly collection and Andrew and I were lucky to find this crew before they called it quits around 9:30. Understandable due to both crew's tractors breaking down at the beginning of the route, leaving them to hand load and recruit other public works employees to help out (hence him not riding the step) and it was already over 100 degrees outside.
I hope to make it back to Tolleson before the end of the week and film their other two trucks, which are real gems compared to even this nice likely-ex-Gilbert F5000.
Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy this small glimpse into another valley town's solid waste collections.
