100% can confirm the delay factor 😀 and loans slow you down a lot IMO, I always need to let the game run in the background after I took out a loan. I feel like there is a turning point at around 25k pop where income is stable and "easy", but before that it is quite challenging (and don't buy too many tiles)

Thanks. This is a very useful little video. Just started my first CS2 city having played a lot of CS1, and the use of services and balancing the budget is very very different. I quite like the challenge, but it's a surprisingly tough game to start cold...

I'm glad to hear that. I bought the game at launch and I couldn't make my city lose money if I tried, so I put the game down. I assume they've finally patched that so I'll pick it back up

Seems like they forgot to update the upkeep rates for each service in the build menu..

You unlock things much faster than your income grows to support them.

@@ResilanBearcat As in, in the build menu it says up keep 75,000 but in the video it's highlighted the actual cost would be 120,000 for example. Something didn't get updated

Mod 529 Tiles I think it is called, has an option in the mod settings menu to select tiles at the start, and then you can adjust the tile upkeep manually. I personally have the tile upkeep at 10% starting the game because the base game rates are wild. You can also adjust this at anytime.

That is certainly an option but the default game has the option to disable tile upkeep totally by unlocking all tiles. I am enjoying the game more without the space constraints of the starting tiles.

While I understand how some services are run at a loss like fire, police, and schools I don't understand why water, electricity, parking, transportation, and university's are run at a loss too. Would understand if they went from a bunch of customers to none, but that's not what happens. And that's a problem because for most cities those are going to be your biggest costs and even in the real life if those go bankrupt bad things tend to happen. Or they get replaced by a more profitable operation. Not in case of university's. Those run out of money they get deleted. And for many their degrees can also be made worthless. Sure you got a physical copy but now no one can check if those are valid degrees. Anyways my point is with tiles now requiring maintenance they should have adjusted certain services to be more profitable when run at 100% capacity whole acknowledging that certain others should always be at a loss .

My town makes a bunch of money from from service fees from electricity. It one of my main sources of income in the beginning. But you also gotta have a map that can produce a lot of windpower.

Universities often run at a loss. They take a lot of government subsidies. Also, the students themselves depending on the country are also subsidized.
