Don't let kitchen waste exposed to open air. Always add a layer of soil over it. Ants sometimes remain in search of shelter at a dark humid and warm place.

Fungal infection might be the cause of leaf drying. Use a fungicide.

Any dried organic matter can be used, but dry leaves are best.

Drying kitchen waste in sunlight doesn't convert it to a compost. It is actually done by useful bacteria present in soil naturally. You can however add that to soil for further composting.

Millipeds are very useful for plants. They don't harm plants. They help decompose dead leaves during rainy season and become dormant during winter. They are mainly active during rainy season only.
