It was $50k for Sky Harbor Rob and that pilot was and owner was Jay Parker Van Sandt, also the founder of Scenic Airways at the Grand Canyon. I know because I met him and painted him and his first aircraft (Ford Trimotor) which became a limited edition print signed by Jay and myself. Im a 5th generation Arizonan and my grandfather helped build this city and built the first subdivision in Sunnyslope. William P Voita.

I'm one of the few people who has done extensive research on Phoenix history. I always said Jack Swilling deserves much more credit for his contributions. I'd love to talk to Mr Schumacher. Is he a descendant of Trinidad Swilling-Schumacher?? I have so many questions.

thank you for the mention of Jack Swilling. He sure is hardly mentioned in Ariz. history. SRP put out a small booklet called "I, Jack Swilling" years ago that was informative on the man. Who named the town Pumpkinville?

Fascinating! Thank you very much for this. One question... William Hancock built the first building. What was it used for? Just curious. Thanks again!

Cigarette companies, followed by cereal companies, knew something important: get them hooked when they're young. That is, make sure you plan for children to have a good time, they'll come back as adults with their kids. Downtown glendale and metrocenter mall seemed to forget this (weird side note but mcdonalds seems pretty hostile to hang out and play in now, their fall is imminent)

I agree completely about the two way streets. And I would even go so far as to allow left turns at intersections. Right now, often, it is so confusing and you can actually end up driving MORE out of your way and circling back. And the city also, as the speaker noted, made a big mistake in focussing on events (which can be expensive) instead of strolling past local shops and spending a day. The lack of decent, efficient public transportation from other places in the Valley to Phoenix downtown has probably been a killer as well. That's why Phoenix will always just be a suburb of nowhere without a heart. Phoenicians should look at Montreal (city proper and metro area), which is almost identifical in population size to Phoenix (city proper and metro area). When you see the awe-inspiring accomplishments of that city (with over 60 subway stations that were each individually-designed works of art, the "underground city," the walkable downtown, low-crime, light shows, festivals, etc.), you have to wonder why Phoenix is mostly hundreds of miles of homeless-laden convenience markets, dirt-colored homes on brown lots, filthy air and angry drivers. Just saying. If Phoenicians look up Montreal on KZfaq, they'll feel as though they've been robbed blind all of these years by their politicians and businesses - and they'd probably be right.

@@gonelucidwhat about that refutes anything that was said? the overly spread out single family home dominance of phx’s layout contributes greatly to the water shortage. robust public transit doesnt worsen the water supply

Not a good idea . I have lived in Moon Valley 46 years, use. North MountIn Park regularly, and drive that road almost every day. This is a major corridor through the mountain that doesnt need more obstacles to navigate around. Speeds going south down the hill are above the posted speed because of the slope of the roadway and that pushes cars into the turn aT the bottom too fast. There is lots of breaking going on and now to add a bicycle to that mix is unsafe for all. Start by giving the entrance to North Mountain Visitor Center some safety measures for into and out of the parking area. This has to be part of the planning. What about the path going thru the west side of the parking lot and over the hill away from traffic. Cars pulling into and out of the Pointe resort already have diffucility pulling out. Please reconsider not using this road For adding bike lanes. A. It’s with bike lanes is a wonderful addition for transportation but it has to be done safely. This plan is not safe.
