China's start was just too good. Everyone else had to deal with a fractured empire. Mongolia would have easily won in the hands of a human, and Korea could have destroyed China if they made the most of their Turtle Ship rush. Japan had no chance whatsoever, especially since they couldn't fit more than one city on their starting island. The map was too unbalanced imo.
