@@wanacrymaguire9186 So I knew this “Marvel” (more like Huge MCU normie) in the real world he doesn’t really like Spider-Man and said that Spider-Man is weak and not that great and important of a hero and weaker than Captain America and can barely last in a city compared to Cap, When he watched Captain America Civil War, he said Spider-Man sucked during the civil war airport fight and was so bad (I told that person that Spidey only had 6 months of experience and that person said that they did not care and STILL expected way more from him). I even told him how he wa s whooping Falcon (who he says is badass) and Winter Solider’s ass and he resorted to saying “Yeah Well He’s Very Annoying” and doesn’t get the concept of how Spidey cracks jokes to annoy his enemies and defends Deadpool and said Deadpool was funny and not annoying and when I had to explain to him why Spidey cracks jokes, he said he “never saw it in that way”. How can you be a Marvel fan and not acknowledge Spider-Man’s importance to Marvel? He’s Stan Lee’s favorite character. When I told this guy about the Civil War trailer, and told him to guess the big surprise that happens, he thought Hulk was gonna show up and when Spidey showed up, he was like “Cool I guess”. I really should’ve told his friends because they would’ve shut him up and give him proper treatment as this dude apparently spread stuff about me and got away with being quiet about these things . He’s also a big PS4 person, so I hope he saw the reception and sales for that game. He even told me I’d be a bad teacher because I’d just show students Spider-Man movies (Tobey Maguire ones). and keep in mind his favorite heroes are Deadpool, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Captain America, Antman, Falcon, and Punisher (who he knows nothing about besides his cool weapons)

It's as the narrator says in his review of Civil War. Captain America surrenders not because he has lost the physical fight but he has lost sight of his ideals. It would have been better served to persuade the public through thoughtful debate and an exchange of ideas. Instead he had endangered many innocents in his war against Iron Man.

@@reidkhnlI mean it was Iron Man’s side who started the whole war in the first place. In the first issue, Cap didn’t like the law, but he didn’t revolt against it at first, then Maria Hill threatened to tranquilize cap when he refused to fought other heroes who refused to register, forcing Cap to fight back and make a run forI and started his rebellion. The rebellion probably would’ve never happened had Maria Hill didn’t act like a supervillain and she wasn’t even a Skrull to justify it, Hill was acting like a complete idiot and Tony was just going along with her.

But Cap wasn’t the one who created a prison in the negative zone, where just being there causes people trama and Iron Man and his side was throwing non-registers in there without trial or due process forever until they registered, Cap also wasn’t the the one who created a clone of there dead friend to be used as a space who ends up killing a hero, and he was also not the one who created the thunderbolts where ironman and his side thought it was a good idea to create a squad of murderers to hunt down the non-registers. Caps side certainly did bad things to, but nowhere near to what ironman and his side did, not mention it was Marie who started the whole thing in the first place.

+Notsosmartguy 625 Don't you get? IronMan IS THE VILLAIN in this story. From all 100 civil war related comics, IronMan looks like a really good guy in about 2 and a half of them, and one of 2 being his own comic and the other being a spiderman's. I was actually impressed and just started to wonder how the hell were they going to turn MCU's IronMan into a villain, since everybody loves him.

The writing and artwork in Civil War might be impressive and well done, that isn't at all the problem with Civil War. The crucial issue about the story is the foundation of the story or, put in another way, the overall purpose and point of the story. Marvel (and super hero comics in general) from the 1930's until the 1990's were all about Heroism. What a crazy thing to say eh? And more specifically, the American way of life and American Heroism. This meant you had heroes who had a sense of duty, honor, sacrifice, and doing what was right. Pretty basic stuff. Basically the suped up version of a Fireman saving a cat stuck in a tree, only these super powered fireman could save a person trapped in a 100 story burning building. What Civil War represents is the loss of all of that. Around the turn of the century, the super hero comic industry stopped caring about Heroism and started caring about other things. The anti-hero, non-traditional causes, outright liberalism, and quite frankly the dollar bill. Civil War is quite directly this exact battle of the 1940's hero who stood for truth, justice, and the American way; and the 2016 "hero" who is now a paid service of the government and represents servitude to the government and group think. The heroes of old were rugged individuals with complex backstories, complex personal stories, complex personal connections. The heroes of today are uniformed codenames who are part of Team Whatever and fight as they are directed against whatever threat of the day pops up. You have to step back and really examine the difference in how the comics are written to see the real change. It's not simply a difference of older style story telling vs newer style. Yes, the style of drawing and writing (dialogue especially) has changed drastically over the decades, but while the style always changed the substance and thrust didn't reach such a drastic change until recently. Heroes aren't heroes any longer, and Civil War points this out more blatantly than any other comic story. It represented the demise of the heroic comic book.

You know one big difference between superheroes and officers/firemen/etc.? Superheroes don't make a living doing what they do, they have to scramble just like the rest of us on top of saving our asses. And yet they put not just their livelihood before themselves, but time that could've been put towards making money or catching up on sleep. It would be like if someone with a job also saved people in bad neighborhoods after their job. The argument/analogy of servicemen being registered is not really accurate enough. The stuff going on in comic book worlds is unprecedented to us, so how we would handle it is pretty up in the air, and stories like these just try to explore that space a bit, throw some questions out there that don't really have any answers, like how the world would really react to Superman.

@gematria79

Marvel's movie scripts are NOT the comic books. Captain America 3: civil war has to keep Tony Stark's popularity for the next 2 "Avenger" movies(in 2018 & 2019), so they'll be keeping the conflict & damage limited so it can be resolved in less than 3 hrs with the introduction of new issues & villains(who will be important in the new phase of a new cast of Avengers for the kids who are just under age 12 today). Movies don't become vintage collectibles. They need to appeal to new audiences. Each generation wants stories that fit their experiences & they want their OWN celebrities in these hero-roles (not over age 40 celebrities playing Ironman, Capt America & Hulk).

What I particularly love about Marvel is that they have done a really good job of making these really weird and human characters real heroes (excluding Man-Thing, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider). I mean, who really thought on paper that people with roids, a winged jetpack, and ONE robotic arm could really make a really dramatic movie. I am sure that Marvel won't disappoint, with its roster of relatively heavy hitters

I'm glad this was posted for proof of all the things I've said. I read the entire story years ago. For years I was saying They should make a movie where all the Heroes both Marvel & DC should vs. all the Villians. Still hasn't happened, BUT MARVEL did give us CIVIL WAR. Which is my focus. As soon as I found out They're making a movie. I said it's going to take at least 2 movies to do it justice. The previews so far aren't sticking to the script. Because It takes an incident involving mutants accidently killing children to start this whole thing. They are accurate with the Whole Cap Vs. IRON MAN though. According to the comic the government wants to prevent another incident, so They pass a law requiring all Heroes and Villians to register so We would know EVERYONE'S identity. Naturally This would get 2 sides. The Pro let's enforce this IRON MAN side (Which is easy for him, because He works with the military) and the Let's keep our freedom and safety CAP side. Also, Mr. Fantastic developes a dimensional prison that's for anyone who doesn't register. Villians team up with heroes on BOTH sides. And really SPIDER-MAN is the star. Because He doesn't want to register to protect Aunt May & Mary Jane. But Stark gives him the Iron Spider suit and convinces Him to be his right hand man. But He's still conflicted. They're are already several characters from recent films in the movie, but There are past characters like the Fantastic 4 and the X-Men not being shown as well as a lot of new characters. We need background and time to show the War. We're not talking about the HULK knocks out Thor. Heroes KILL other heroes. Give the ones that die They're epic farewells. You can't do that with just one. This MARVEL'S MASTERPIECE. They're are other good movies, but due to it's Nature this is #1 for 2016. It deserves the OSCAR!

I think Ironman is right because if none of the heroes registrated they would be come outlaws and then no matter how much good they would do they would be branded as criminals and the government would hurt any one close them to like Mary Jane to Spider-Man. And if they all sighned they really wouldn’t have to take many orders from the government in the civil war comic tony becomes the director of shield so wouldn’t that give the heroes more power then they all ready did.

+Isaiah Glass So what iron man comic or story have you followed? Last I checked Tony has always been a bit of an asshole or screwed up. Dude's biggest threat isn't a super villain its a god dang bottle of beer. For the matter is Captain America really a good guy considering hes fighting more or less because hes not getting his way? Fighting the pro side isn't helping the public its so that he can keep doing things his way. He's being a selfish prick. The comic actually has one of the nicest showings for tony as he isn't fighting for himself but for the public. Most of what he does here is completely selfless while captain A is nothing but selfish.

Just one gripe with the review...Civil War was just another of the crossover events that have been a staple since at least the early 80s. I'm going to assume you perceive it in this way based on your youth? I believe COTIE and Secret Wars were the first real forays into the large scale story telling...if anybody can think of an earlier example I'd love to hear about it.
@Demarcoa
@Demarcoa 8 жыл бұрын
there's plenty of others. The first big one was the Kree vs. Skrull war, but there are other earlier examples. There's a difference in tone though. Civil War changed a lot about what these events were, how they were treated, and how they drove the story compared to events before.

+Justin Romeo this is just the core series. Though it would have been fun to cover some of that stuff, that would merit either a series or another video entirely. It felt best to have one video focusing on one title.
