the next guy Lots of kids died as child soldiers from conscription or genuine desire to join up. But yeah, 12 and up was kinda a rule of thumb. So, the “die young” bit was pretty meta. Those that didn’t die usually ended up addicted to opium too.

At 3:38 B Moynihan tries to make Fallon break so hard that his face turns red. And Jimmy comes this close > }{ < that close to pulling it off. I think he wanted to play the Horatio Sanz part from back in the day SO BAD. Cuz if Sanz and Fallon were in a sketch together, someone [Jimmy] was gonna break. But, yeah, actually, Jimmy broke in every sketch. I forgot. And for you kids reading this, look up Horatio Sanz. He was a beast. While you do that, I'm gonna go look up Tim Conway and Harvey Korman.

I was a serious Civil War reenactor for 18 years and this skit is really spot-on when it comes to being authentic. The clothing on both Yank and Reb is correct, the stacked rifles correct, the entire scene is perfect. It caught me totally off-guard that it was even SNL at first. I wish more of these historically accurate spoofs on history would be done. It's a great way of "hooking" kids into real history- better than any novel.

I suspect the SNL prop guy simply went on-line and found the local Yank reenactment group and asked them to bring everything they owned, including rifles, tent, etc. They'd have been happy to help. Everything is too authentic in the skit to have been merely bought by SNL.
