Some events transcend the comic book medium, for better or worse, and Marvel Comics 2006 Civil War is one of them. Written by Mark Millar, it saw the Marvel Universe faced with the Superhero Registration Act, with some for it and following the side led by Iron Man, and others against it rallying behind Captain America.
It received its fair share of hate, but now, over 15 years later, how well does it hold up? here's my full review!

10:40 - You realize Matt Murdock wasn’t in this, right? Danny Rand was posing as Daredevil the entire event. Matt was in Europe dealing with Vanessa Fisk during the Brubaker run. This video was really good. I got a lot of fond memories collecting comics around this time. This series and Infinite Crisis I literally bought and read all the tie-ins. For Civil War, I hated the ending. The last 12-15 pages of issue 7 felt like a roller coaster crash that mangled everyone. Up until that, it had been an amazing day at the theme park but unfortunately it ended with scars lol. Its really interesting to hear about this from a different experience and to remember it did have some fun parts despite the ugliness at the end.y

The only tie-in that kept me going to the very end was "Frontline". Loved the seriousness of it.

Personally I agree. I love civil war. I think it’s cool, fun, summer blockbuster action. Yeah it has its problems but it’s still entertaining. And I love this era of marvel because everything is influenced by other events. Like avengers disassembled lead to house of m. House of m influenced so many books then we have books like new avengers dealing with secret invasion, civil war, dark reign/dark avengers. I prefer AvX over this but I like Civil War a lot.

This whole concept is based on identity crisis, not infinite crisis. I still feel that moment when Batman was revealed to be double crossed by his own people was so good and unexpected, which by the way had a profound impact on the infinite crisis, that this event should have deserved more love by the fans.

Considering the Secret Invasion event, this book is a lot better if you imagined that half of the stupid decisions were probably skrulls

There was this Penance miniseries written by Paul Jenkins that somehow was not even a Civil war tie-in. That stuff was insanely good.

Civil war as a event I thought was a interesting story but man oh man the execution of that event made everybody a complete and utter jerk and no one was in the right which is sad because you think are heroes of the marvel universe would be a lot more smarter then fighting each other for a law that's just stupid idea from the very beginning.

Another bad point with the ending: The Iron Man's side spends most of the stories saying that working for the goverment is the only the way to prevent tragedies like fight against Nitro from happening and that the registration was made for heroes to finally be hold accountable for the collateral damage and take responsability for their actions... and then the story with both sides having a huge battle that destroys most of the city and in the end only Cap team are punished while Iron Man's side stays around with Tony being promote, facing zero consequence for the collateral damage their battle caused.

You're saying that the problem with the chocolate cake is that it tastes like chocolate. The whole point of civil war is to bring forth the debate of government power and how government is not synonym with morality. So only the anti-government side facing all the consequences of the big hero brawl is quite the example of what Cap was warning about.
@alexandrefrauches132
@alexandrefrauches132 10 ай бұрын
@@juanandresramirez5336 Which just contributes to make Iron Man and his followers come off even more out of character and hypocrites, since they are no longer heroes working for the goverment bc they want to redeem themselves for their failures and be better heroes but assholes who working for the goverment just to escape from the taking responsability for their mistakes. Cap is 100% right in the debate.

@@juanandresramirez5336yesnt. Cap / anti legislation side was talking a lot about this theme, but as the video itself says as a whole "ironman is right" was supposed to be the moral. What is funny as hell, once you notice that they actually pulled a great discussion on the movies once they noticed that "literally being a X-Men villain is good" wouldnt made it. (Speaking of whom, Civil War did them really dirty with all "we're neutral because we're going to leave" thing... THE one thing they always had against those laws were that anyone anywhere can be a Mutant, leave and all new Mutants born in USA just... fuck them, I guess?)
@juanandresramirez5336
@juanandresramirez5336 10 ай бұрын
@@albertonishiyama1980 Well I don't think the book wanted to portray the prolegislation side as the morally-correct side. If that were the case, Cap would have conceded that he was wrong but he doesn't say he's wrong, he just stops the fight because it got out of hand and he wasn't willing to sacrifice other people to get his point across. Surely a bit anti-climatic. And yes, it's disappointing to see the Xmen being neutral but if you consider this comes after House of M and Decimation, it makes sense and it even contributes to the story because as I remember, it painted the picture of Cap's argument: this is what can end up happening to all heroes, a reservation sorrounded by sentinels and the only way out being cooperating with the government.

Weird tangent, is this event still canon now? Or did One More Day retcon it out of existence? Don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. Honestly, wonder why Spidey couldn’t just ask Dr. Strange to go out on an adventure to try and make a spell to erase his identity to the world like in No Way Home.

Civil war is as the kids say one of the GOATS of comic events. This was actually my first event I ever read in the mid 2000s. And I've been devouring them ever since.😄 Always know I will get a quality review off you Maddogg. Shared.

One side of a superhero conflict imprisons the other? Why does that sound familiar? Oh right because Kingdom Come did it 10 years before Civil War.

the main reason i dont like this story is tony's characterization and now everyone thinks he's just a dick all the time, tho it was the first comic i ever read and it had some good moments, mainly with spiderman

It’s garbage. This and Avengers disassembled is when character assasination became the norm. And hacky shock value screen writers infiltrated main stream super-hero comics.
