8302 on the outside package is the date code. 8 is the last number of the year it was made, 2018, and the 302 is the 302nd day of the year, so October 29. The chili mac was produced September 16, 2018 according to the 8259 you mentioned.

"Rock or Something" is my favorite part of the FRH instructions - you really should of used it though, you literally just pour water up to the line and shake it a bit and leave it for a few minutes - nothing toxic gets in. Chili mac is one of my faves too. Beef stew isn't bad, and there was a chicken teriyaki one if memory serves that wasn't half bad either. The date code on the back of the MRE is Y-DDD (year-day) so 302nd day of 2018. The "A" is a batch designator.

I’m gonna order a few cases of new ones and will try it again. I didn’t want to freak out the neighbors with some weird smoking pouch out in my driveway.

MREs were designed to where 1 a day could sustain a soldier in battle

I ate mre's for 6 months 8 times a day when I was in desert storm. a big difference in the things that are included since the early 90's. but, with the hot sauce and a little bit of doctoring they were edible. lol the 1st version of the mre didn't have really good heaters. so we would improvise and set them in the exhaust pipe of our diesel generator. you knew that it was hot when it would expand and eject out of the exhaust pipe.

These are best bought in the 12pk cases because of extra protection. I have been lucky in buying MREs over the years, but I know there is spoiling that can occur.

I was in the Navy we never had a MRE I've heard they are good with Hot sauce

@@travisp11 we added Tabasco to give it flavor. If you didn't like tabasco when you enlisted, you might have developed a taste for it after enough MREs. Also, we'd mix stuff together. Grunt fudge, etc.

Pork with Rice in a Spicy BBQ Sauce was my favorite. We NEVER had Pop-Tarts in our MREs. Brown Sugar Pop-Tarts 🤮 I ate them cold. The heater WREAKS! That's TP. We never got that much. One square, one ply. Save them up. MREs are designed to constipate. What the HELL are you doing!?! You don't eat that off a plate. Facepalm. Maybe we should make a video in June. Let's heat up an MRE at TOTP at the range. You DO NOT want that stinking up your apartment.
