CIVILIZATION OF THE IFE KINGDOM | History Series | Sankofa Pan Africa | Dr. Bunmi Oyinsan
Ife (aka Ile-Ife) was an ancient African city which flourished between the 11th and 15th century CE in what is today Nigeria in West Africa. Ife was the capital and principal religious centre of the Yoruba kingdom of Ife, which prospered thanks to trade connections with other West African kingdoms.
Watch this very interesting episode as Dr. Bunmi Oyinsan sheds light.

I've learned more about my people in the last year than all the schooling I've gotten, places I've been to and people I've seen over the course of my life so far. These things were a mystery, something I never really thought about and now I'm wondering why. After looking at our people all over the world, I'm more convinced they are in the situation they are in because they are in a perpetual loop of unconsciousness about themselves and are just being actors in a movie they had no invitation to the rewriting of, though we had the original script.

I'm always amazed at how little we know about ourselves and yet we have been told to be educated is to know about other people and their ideologies and philosophies while neglecting our own existence, history and contribution to mankind. How then can we gather as a whole if all our thoughts and ideas are about others and never knowing or pursuing ourselves?

Ile Ife had 3 dynasties. The first was Ife Oodaye, which existed over 5,000 year ago. Ife-Oodaye was where humans were created according to Ifa and was destroyed by flood. Ife-Oyelagbo is the 2nd coming of Ife (2nd dynasty). The 3rd and current dynasty is Ile Ife. Yorubas believed in re-incarnation and reenactment. The struggle for the throne between Oduduwa and Obatala in the 3rd dynasty was a re-enactment of the 1st dynasty fight between Oduduwa and Obatala during creation. It was said that Olodumare sent Obatala to earth to create humans, he got drunk on the job and Oduduwa took over his job.

Your second mythical history is more like it. Lamurudu died on the way, Oduduwa led his group into Ife ,found several groups leaving separately under separate leaders like Obatala group,Obalufon group etc all cooperating without any actual leader , though Obatala was prominent, leading to a face off between Oduduwa Group and Obatala group in which Oduduwa relying on wit ,patience and perseverance gained ascendancy. Observe, how easily the Chief Priest of Ife easily displaced the grandchildren of Oduduwa for the throne of Ife , because the group leaders who approved Oduduwa above Obatala had become the "afobajes" (kingmakers). Reference to Obatala's love for Palmwine is perhaps reference to a flaw in his disposition, and sorry to say character . The first myth of Obatala and Oduduwa being sent to create the earth is a fictional supplanting of other deities to meet political ends

Ma'am If he Lamurudu xam from Egypt or mecca please can you show us the evidence of Lamurudu in those region and also if he had children by name oodua or odusuwa People in that region do not use o in their names. Even Egypt have records of Alexander the great who lived before oodua. We need to start teaching true history and stop confusing this generation and those yet to come. Oduduwa who founded the kingship of ile ife when he was banished from igodomigodo now Edo, He choose the name izoduwa. When he was accepted by the locals of uhe to rule them as king because they saw the royalty in him. When he first arrived uhe, when ask where who he was he replied to the locals He was the son of ogiso owodu, the sky King of igodomigodo. For this reason many local believed he was the son of God, since his father was the king of the skys which cemented his acceptance of been their ruler. Although before now the oracle of the land did say a leader will grace the land from unknown place. It is believe he Oduduwa may have named the land ile-efe ( Edo meaning I run to wealth or I except death to riches or wealth. Which has an Edo meaning of It is also believed he named him self izoduwa meaning I choose the part of wealth Now corrupted to Oduduwa. Before he Oduduwa or as know to Igodomigodo people Igodomigodo people had over 30 ogiso ( sky King) that ruled with hereditary with noble families that ruled the land. Those noble families had the task to make sure the lineage of igosa continue as to their. As all kingdom igodomigodo had a brief cut in this sky kind When the last ogiso owodu died after he sent his son to be exicuted whose life was spared and later became king in uhe ( ile-ife). For years the stool of ogiso was vacant as it was believed by the people his banished son was alive Which led the elders of igodomigodo to search for him and getting to uhe where the found him and ask him to come take his father thrown instead he sent his son deu to old age Which to the people of igodomigodo was also accepted becaued it is believed only the lineage of ogiso can ocupy the stool. The coming of orunmiyan was to be install as the next ogiso which he was and faced a resistance from an interregnum government of the day by the name eribo. Who wanted the thrown for him self. These struggle led to oranmimya advocating his ogiso thrown with a phrase saying only a son burn and thought in the way of the land can rull suprimly. BUT before he left he had a son by a princes of a Duke created during the ogiso era. A son by the name eweka who became the second king with a new title named Omo n oba ( the son of light or sun) as the people alwsy look up to the skys for better day The sun light was a hope of better day. The son of the sun The name oba is an Edo work meaning sun or light. Oduduwa was never referred to as oba rather oghene Orunmiyan was never referred to as oba rather alafin. Oba was adopted by all yoroba chiefs becease of the hight and might the Omo ne oba ne edo reach with his tales and glories.

@@komiczar There is a lot to talk about but majority of countries as fairytale as their story, that doesn't mean they don't have real story. The majority of the historian visited the places where the stories happened and look for the families of the poeple that took part in the story. If you have read those books majorites of the historians tell how they got their stories. Especially this man that wrote this book A History of the Yoruba People by Stephen Adebanji Akintoye, he travelled all over Yoruba land to get his story even took him years to collect the story.

Sounds to me this legend was plagiarized, by a more recent civilization, to begin the book of Genesis.

Yoruba history is starting with the name Oduduwa and the Benin say Oduduwa is Ekaladeran 🤔 ..... Yoruba history is too funny that lie is consider a mythology. Just imagine how the Fulani make a whole nation lost their origin by selling them as slaves for centuries, well every disappointment is a blessing now this confuse people said they made Benin empire lol

Old as you are, you are still lying in this your old age. Even jesus christ didn't climb down from heaven. Tell the world where Ododuwa came from and stop fooling yourself. Ododuwa was a prince from Benin know as Izoduwa or Ekaladeran

That is recent Bini myth. The cemetery, orun Oba Ado, of Obas of Bini is in Ile Ife. Until recently Obas of Bini used to be buried in IIe Ife as ori ade kii sun ta meaning crowned heads are buried in their homesteads. The language of Ifa remains Yoruba. Ifa is indispensable in coronation rituals of Bini. Until recently Binis commonly had Yoruba names. Yorubas don't bear Bini names and Ooni is never taken to Bini for burial. Omon'Oba Erediauwa started this controversy of Bini supremacy.

Hello all! Don't push me into haste I have lately come to learn, research, understand and believe the age long aspersion/assertion that the real ancient biblical Israel was trully sited here in Nigeria. That nation was those Aboriginal people that you here in history narratives of the empires of west Africa saying they met the original owners or dwellers. That was Il Nzere people. Builder of first Egypt. The bible just gave a little misconceived story of that Gods Holy nation. Another name of that Israel is Ka or Du or...... They're the Ka-na-ani people...Jebusites.. Like Ikale, ikano, Ikaduna, kagoro, Katshina, etc...Just patiance. Those our oyo, Ghana, Bini, Old Hausa-Gobir empires sat on top of it. British society tried to rescue it but the church, Islam & satanic forces refused and instead still colonized it. Its waiting to arise again. And i can hear its breaking loose. Watch this............Search and watch something" CAll FOR RESTORATION OF THE ALTAR AND THE TEMPLES OF THE GODS OF ANCIENT NZERE EL"
