The swords over spears comment is not accurate. It had nothing to do with swords being forbidden and spears not, both were forbidden by the way of the leaf. It's that weapons for harming other people were forbidden and swords are only used for hurting people where as spears can be used for hunting, and so those that took up the spear could justify to themselves that they weren't completely abandoning the way of the leaf. Yes, it's mostly a technical difference but one that explains a large chunk of their thinking.

I think the female Aes Sedai gave the Aiel the ter angreal as more of.. an obligation for the aiel to keep themselves alive than actually worrying about the items of power.

Wheel of Time doesn't have as much mainstream popularity as, say, Lord of the Rings or A Song of Ice and Fire. Hopefully that will change once the show starts.

@@Limpshot_McGee Not true at all ASOIAF only just surpassed WoT in sales several months ago and that is with the most popular TV series airing since 7 years ago. As a book series WoT was more popular than ASOIAF, in fact George Martin has stated that he only became successful because of a quote by Robert Jordan he was given to put on his cover. And nobody is more popular than Lotr. You just cant beat that

SPOILERS: it wasn't really because of the female aes sedai that the taint happened, it just turned out that they were right to fear the risk behind lews therin's plan. had the female aes sedai helped out it likely would have ended with both halves of the one power tainted. ultimately lews therin's plan would never have really worked, and it took the dark one's own power to seal him away.

That doesn't mean they had to be complete bitches about it. The Fateful Concord reeked of sexism. Even if Lews Therin's plan was flawed Latra Posae Decume's plan was just stupid. Using the Choedan Kal to sheild Shayol Ghul would have just led to the Dark One breaking free and once he was free he'd win.

@@jamesshuriff8255 true, there were no plans that would work, and lews therin didn't have a better plan. but the choden kal were lost before even the disagreement over lews therin's plan or the strike at shayol ghul. it wasn't a valid plan at that point. the arguments of sexism are valid, and their world lived through the results of those decisions, but ultimately they were right to hold back from lews therin's plan, it would have probably destroyed everything, not just the world. likely the ladies plan would have had a similar result, because after knowing what happens to seal the bore it is pretty clear that the one power couldn't do it alone.

@@kght222 are you sure the Access Keys were lost before the Fateful Concord was in effect? I had thought the Choedan Kal was created specifically for that purpose. We are missing a few pieces of information to answer the question: was it possible for the Bore to be properly sealed during the War of Power? Callandor was created during the War of Power, toward the end of the 2nd Age. It was used during the War of Power and this is when the lack of a buffer was discovered. This and its two other properties enabled the sealing of the Bore: it makes a male channeler vulnerable to involuntary linking and it is a True Power sa'angreal. Since Callandor did exist before the Strike at Shayol Ghul it *was* possible for it to be done properly, just highly unlikely anyone would have figured it out.

@@jamesshuriff8255 not sure if they were lost before the fateful concord or not, probably not (what would they have to negotiate?), but they were definitely lost before the strike at shayol ghul. as for callandor, i don't think that puzzle was solved until right before rand did it. i don't think rand had any idea exactly what he was going to have to do when he walked into the cave. he just knew he needed to be there with what he took.
