After the destruction of Amon's host body, only his presence in the Khala kept him attached to the material universe. Artanis gathered his forces for one last stand, where they would defend the Keystone as it charged to extract Amon from the Khala. Before the troops, Artanis told them that their prejudice must be a thing of the past, and that they must all stand united if they are to defeat Amon. Around the Keystone, the Daelaam set up a defensive perimeter as the Amon's zerg descended on them. Matriarch Vorazun and her Nerazim took up the western approach, Highlord Alarak and his Tal'darim covered the south, and Phase-smith Karax with a contingent of Purifers held the east entrance. Grand Preserver Rohana and Talandar supported their defense from the Spear of Adun.
As the battle went on, the Golden Armada, commanded by a possessed Executor Selendis, arrived. They engaged both the main Keystone site and the Spear of Adun, slowly picking away at it and destroying its weapons and support systems, leaving the Spear of Adun unable to assist. Artanis had no other choice but to destroy his own brethren in order to defend the Keystone. Despite facing overwhelming numbers the Daelaam held until the Keystone was charged, though they began to crumble. Artanis then ordered all forces to fall back to the Keystone.
Artanis personally mounted the defense of the Keystone, and an Amon-possessed Selendis came to meet him in one-on-one combat. The Keystone activated, temporarily purging Amon from the Khala. Artanis shouted to the redeemed Templar to sever their nerve cords to free themselves from Amon, as Amon began to break free from the Keystone. Though Selendis questioned on what they would become without the Khala, Artanis simply said they would be free. With that Selendis was the first to sever her nerve cords. Her warriors and all other Khalai soon followed. The Keystone then collapsed, unable to hold Amon, and with nothing to hold his consciousness, Amon was forced back into the Void.
Later, Artanis stood over the grave of Dark Prelate Zeratul and returned his warp blade, thanking him for the salvation he brought them. Artanis stated he would bring the dream of a unified protoss to bear, and forge a new society. A city was shown being rebuilt, containing both Khalai and Nerazim structures. After the conflict, Karax was received a transmission from Ulnar. Artanis realized that it had to be Sarah Kerrigan...

I just realised, NARUD/DURAN not only hired the raiders to locate but also reassembled the Keystone which would later be used to defeat his master. Talk about irony

Well the problem is that he didn't plan it this way. In his mind, he would help the terrans get the key, assemble it, meanwhile moving a couple of hybrids nearby to absorb the psychic backlash of the final charged detonation that he would then use to begin the awakening of his god. The key wasn't supposed to make anymore problems but then the queen of blade happened. Naruud was counting on mensk to kill Kerrigan and be done with it, but tychus failed and and it left the queen to then free the artefact off mensk. And then comes in artanis to swoop it again right before he could slip out with it. Just a bunch of miscalculations and unplanned events

@@mobiuscoreindustries And don't forget that Kerrigan turned out to have an ace in the hole to prevent Narud from killing her personally. A ghost from his recent past he'd all but forgotten about: Alexei Stukov. Without him and his willingness to destroy those structures Narud was drawing power from, he'd have beaten Kerrigan.

The only way Amon was revive in the first place was by the energies harvested by the keystone from the original queen of blades. I don't think there is an individual or even an entire planet that could have substituted for her as she was crafted by the controlled overmind specifically for that purpose (even though he wasn't truly aware of it). He just hoped that she could wrest control back somehow in order to save his zerg from being hybrid fauder
@hagamapama

@@mobiuscoreindustries Nerud was definitely not expecting the Terrans to get wise to him. That was when it all went south for him. While he could use the terrans to prod the zerg and Protoss in the direction he wanted them to go, his plans went without a hitch. When Zeratul rumbled the Hybrid program and warned Raynor, that was the beginning of the end. Losing the Raiders as a pawn forced him to act more openly, and Raynor's decision to protect the Queen of Blades at her most vulnerable guaranteed Narud's downfall. I'm convinced it was Narud who convinced Mengsk to deploy Tychus. Narud needed Kerrigan dead far more than Mengsk did. Ultimately the fate of the universe turned on the fact that Narud drastically underestimated Jim Raynor.

This was the only time imo that the words Entaro Adun truly meant something. Warning: LONG ASS POST. Adun fought long and hard with the Conclave and its Judicators to not persecute the individuals that had a different belief and wanted to preserve their individual identity instead of integrating into the Khala, the group that would eventually become the Nerazim. Because they were scared that it would lead to another Aeon of Strife, where Protoss killed Protoss (ironic watching them fight and kill each other now because of that exact mental connection that the Nerazim didn't want to be part of in the first place). Adun kept hiding them from the sight of the Conclave (Adun Toridas). He even helped them escape safely out of Auir, to eventually find their home in Shakuras, giving his life up in the process. So when the time came, instead of persecution, the Nerazim showed the orphaned Khalani the same compassion that Adun had showed them and welcomed them to their home planet. But this moment here was the moment that the Nerazim and Khalani had truly reintegrated with one another to form the unified Daelaam. What gets me ever more is that after hailing Adun, Artanis proceeds to bless for the guidance two of the individuals who started the journey into the unification of the Protoss race, Tassadar and Zeratul (Entaro Tassadar and Entaro Zeratul). Despite Zeratul being treated as a crazy criminal pariah, it was still because he decided to help Tassadar that the Daelaam exists. He might feel like he fucked up Aiur but hell, he was the biggest contributor to the unification of the protoss along with Tassadar. But Artanis isn't a contemporary of Zeratul, he is what Tassadar was to Zeratul except his partner is ol' Jimmity. Don't get me wrong, Artanis is a badass. But if he wasn't Tassadar's pupil, then i'm not entirely sure if he would have given Zeratul the benefit of the doubt when they first met, because Aldaris was a paranoid power-flexing asshole and he wouldn't be where he is today if not for Tassadar and Zeratul. Artanis proudly stands on the shoulders of his mentors as the Heirarch of the Daelaam, knowing he has completed something that was only at his teachers time, a dream, yet was still something they worked on. A dream they had passed on to him. And it all started because Adun didn't want to kill some rogue protoss that only fought for their right to individuality.

SC2 should have ended here. Going into the void after Amon should have been the plot of SC3 and fought by a different human generation a few centuries later (Artanis could still be around as a wise elder or something), so that defeating a billion year old enemy who spent millions of years setting up his grand plan does not take measly 5 years.

I am utterly bemused about how people keep on building carriers with Interceptors. They have to be constantly replaced and while great against massed swarms, they are quite mediocre against single entities with large health pools, like enemy Carriers, Ultralisks or Hybrids. I always built Disruptors, Prisms, Colossi, and shield batteries as soon as I could. Was obliterating everything in the skies and on the ground. It also amazes me the Cjake had only half his population for nearly the entire fight, did not do any upgrades and was generally playing with his left foot. Yet still, he won. Come on, this mission is meant to be hard!

It will take at least a generation or two before the Choir Mind is back up and running...and who knows if the collected knowledge and personalities of the old Khala will have survived "The Cutting". Depends if the Khala is a projection running on all Protoss brains with nerve cords intact (cutting the nerve cords is like deactivating the servers it runs on) or if it exists independently (like the Forerunner's Domain). Even if a new Choir Mind evolves the current generation of Protoss will be blind to it; sad, but their sacrifice made it possible for their decedents to reclaim some of their heritage.

Don't see why that made Alarak better than Artanis. Because it doesn't. If anything it would make him even more evil because he had a choice to follow Amon's dark plan. That said however, all the Tal'Darim, including Alarak, are perversions true, goodly Protoss...they were taken and twisted by Amon to become his Death Fleet and elite puppets. Did Alarak have any real choice in the end? Some, but he was probably born into the Tal'darim just as Artanis and the others were born into the Khalai. Just as Artanis made the decision to end the Choir Mind to save the Known Universe, Alarak broke the Tal'darim's covenant with Amon. So in some sense Alarak is as much a hero as Artanis, but Alarak is still a Stalin-wannabe... necessary to defeat the Nazis but just as evil in the end.

its very world of warcraft :P I wish starcraft had stayed starcraft in theme. the whole thing was stolen from the grimdark warhammer 40k after all, and it was that gritty, dark theme that really drew me in. starcraft 2 was, over all, too clean and too campy. I cannot believe Jim raynor did not make good on his promise to kill kerrigan. I cannot believe that the zerg would ever seek peace. and most of all, I cannot believe the whole of the protoss would ever even consider destroying the kala. i would find mass suicide far more believable.
