At the Smart City Expo World Congress, we had the opportunity of catching up with Claire O’Neill, Former UK Climate and Energy Minister, Global Decarbonization Advisor.
One of the big questions is what policies will help the energy transition run smoothly and clearly governments have a huge role to play. But Claire O'Neill is convinced that bottom-up policies often made by city leaders, city officials, local businesses or local citizens can really have an impact.
We need to accelerate the pace of innovation to meet the challenge and I think there's a couple of important things. One is to accept where we are. You know we have very high emissions levels that are growing every year.
So it's my first time at the Smart City Expo but I know it's been running for many years, and it's an amazing event. I think so many of the solutions we need are in these halls and if you were here you'd see and feel the energy from people who believe we really can make these changes. So not only does it give us a sense of the solutions. I think it gives us a sense of hope and a sense of courage as well. It's a great event.
