You two are always up to something cool and tasty haha Just a little north of me and all kinds of seafood around you, I wish it was like that in Brevard, I hardly want to eat fish from most parts of the indian river cess pool.

When i lived in Miami some friends and i would drive to Vero Beach and go claming. We would take a 14’ jon boat and wade in the intercostal waterway wearing socks. We could feel the clams with our feet. We would reach down pick them up and put them in the boat. We had cold beer in the boat and would open the cherrystones with an oyster knife and eat them as we walked. We keep the big ones for later steaming and chowder. Great fun. Your cool video took me back to 1978.

Did the same exact thing in the mid 60s. With my parents and 2 of their friends from pompano beach. We would all drive up to Vero and rent an aluminum skiff and go off of some of the islands. We used hard garden rakes and wade in the water raking the bottom. We filled a couple Burlap bags with clams. Those were the good old days for sure.

Ian' I was born and raised on Long Island NY and have been here in Tampa, FL for the last 2yrs now, but while growing up in NY we would go clamming also and let me tell you, up there the little ones are called "Littlenecks", the Medium sized to slightly larger ones are called "Cherrystones" and the monster Chowder Clams that are as big as a softball are called "Quahogs". I can't believe you didn't eat any of them raw on the 1/2 shell. That's my favorite way to eat those Cherrystone big boys. little bit of hot sauce / lemon and splash of horseradish or cocktail sauce Yummy Yummy! My sister would order me a 1/2 a bushel for my birthday every year because she knows how much i enjoy them. Good times, the way you prepared them were also Super tasty in my opinion. Another awesome video brother. Love seeing you and wifey enjoying each others time together. God Bless and Continued success good Sir'

I spent a year in Maine and clammed out near Bar Harbor Maine. I got a half bushel of "butter clams" on a single tide with my grand-father. I was 12 and I couldn't keep up with that old man. He was a commercial fisherman of clams. He dug out 3 bushels in that same time. I shucked out mine and stored them in the freezer. We ate them all winter. We steamed up a bunch, chowdered, and fried them up. Good groceries. Great video. I liked the one you did on the tug as well. Glad I subscribed. There is no difference in then size when steamed, all good.

Found that with clams to cook 'em was to try and not get more than two layers at a time. Especially if they're big because the weight of ones above will keep the ones under from opening properly. But it's not life and death important, unless they don't pop at all. It's been a good long time since I've been claiming much less eaten ones found. Mussels though, I'll tear those up big time. Both my siblings though see oysters, mussels or even clams and they'll start to gag. Just means all the more for me at that point I suppose. And you're right about the liquor. Add a little bit of cream or sour cream after all the clams are out. Oh son, crusty toasted bread just nom nom nom nom nom nom. Oh! Plate tip if you want to have a ramekin or small-ish bowl on a plate but not have it slide around. A lemon slice about 1/8" thick under it on the plate. Keeps things like a dipping ramekin from sliding around. Damp paper towels do the same but are less fancy fancy. Also, want to keep your dipping butter warm and liquid at the table? Have your melted butter in the dish you want to use, next that one in another bowl that's hot from sitting in boiling water for ten minutes. Suggest cheap bowls from Walmart or a grocery store because thermal stress may crack it if it goes on a very cold surface that isn't wood.
