I’d love to have a big family like that. Having children be different, yet very similar to their parents, as well as build skills based on their parents, would be awesome. Avoiding incest by taking in refugees would be another challenge around it. Incest could lead to more negative traits, getting increasingly damaging with every new generation of incest babies.

@@DominicDarrell I can't really see anyone willingly trying to model incest as a game mechanic, there's a reason Dwarf Fortress skips over defecation. Instantly marked as "the game with the dwarves and the shit" Incest, outside something like Crusader Kings would probably attract the entirely wrong audience

@@ChrisSDParker oh fair point, I just love complicating everything. I suppose the best option would be to disallow incest altogether, but my point about needing refugees would stand. That, or hosting parties that maybe leads to new relationships/children. Otherwise you’re very limited in how the family grows. You’ll be left with a bunch of brothers and sisters who eventually die off due to no reproduction.

Probably because it would be a needless drain on the games resources for what little benefit it would add, not many Rimworld campaigns last like 10+ years so you would just have useless children running around getting murdered that whole time, unless it was like mods where you can just make them pop out at 14. But in Rimworld considering the advanced nature of technology it would make sense to assume that we overcame population issues by making everyone infertile and just growing people in vats or whatever.

What Mr Cheesemunch said tbh - I installed a pregnancy mod and the babies are useless for most of the playtime. I have actually considered sterilising my married couple so they don't keep producing children who are a drain on the fortress.

I will say it doesn't have much replay value right now, the technology etc grows fairly shallow once you figure out how to quickly chain your way through the tree. But I think it has a lot of potential! Nvm I just loaded the game back up, they added cats. GOTY

Harvest alot of mushrooms and dry them. Make sure you make it to the fireplace and build small-ish rooms. Use a vent to heat rooms connected to the room with the fireplace. It will heat them well enough. Make sure to kill as many animals for the hide and make everyone clothes out of them. With all the dried mushrooms, hide clothes and sticks for the fireplace you will make it. I restarted like 20 times just to die out in winter, just to realise that it is quite easy when you get the hang of it. About to hit my 4th winter.

For what it's worth, the Dark Ages is far more about a lack of good records rather than Europe forgetting stuff. The term itself has fallen out of popularity in the modern age for being generally incorrect, as it mostly comes from the Renaissance which viewed classical antiquity as the "light" and everything after as the "dark". Which makes sense when you consider that the Renaissance included a lot of fascination with antiquity.

The dark age is a period at the beginning the middle ages which saw what had been the Western portion of the Roman empire: - Experience a massive drop in population - Experience a massive drop in GDP and trade - Experience a massive drop in literacy rates - Completely replace the centralised power of Rome with a mess of manoralism - Technology backsliding (concrete, metalworking, infrastructure, and more took a huge hit) - Have numerous major settlements, most notably, but far from exclusively Rome, not only be largely abandoned, but literally taken apart for building materials - Have a drastically reduced (surviving) historical record Europe bounced back, but there absolutely was massive disruption, including a significant gap in historical records, following the fall of Rome. Even Arctic ice cores show a measurable, significant drop on atmospheric CO2 pointing to an industrial collapse.

@@ayesaac the dark ages *was* part of the middle ages. Specifically it's considered to be the Early Middle Ages now. The Dark Age stuff is dated and not commonly accepted anymore.
