I've been saying this since 2012 science has become incredibly dogmatic it's almost a religion at this point if you hold the wrong "belief" you can be canceled in the scientific community that is fundamentally the opposite of what science should be. Conflicting and competing 'truths' - or conflicting and competing illusions of truth? What is found is a result of a definitional focus. Refining the focus, finds according to active desire as a movement of being that draws, magnetizes and attracts the focus of awareness. Truth - is already true, but recognition of true is a resonance match to the consciousness of its qualities - that can be called information or feedback to the particular predicates. As I sense intuitively, what we call the physical is embodiment of Soul - what else is there to be the embodiment of? I feel to say that while some general statements might hold - every instance is a unique instance. The true will is not the mind of wishful assertion - but the true alignment in the Soul or Whole purpose. Nothing has ever been demonstrated definitively to be the mechanism for consciousness, so why this redundant remark ? I answer to many people here... As far as I know Penrose and Hameroff just pretend to propose a model... an interesting one at least. But we can't demonstrate anything for the moment. Nevertheless if a theory's principle is to take the more possible elements in account (e.g. microtubules inside dendrites and neurons, and not just neurons), it should at least increase hour brain's mechanisms knowledge, but I guess it's more than that. Consciousness' so called emergence to me is a joke, and a bad one because it's no explanation at all and it's mainstream at the same time. But what can be demonstrated anyway concerning consciousness ? Everything apart from itself, we can just elaborate the best model as we can, and we must distinguish between the serious scientific research of Penrose & Hameroff and the more speculative things about platonic values imbeded in spacetime geometry etc., which we must see as a way of seeing (maybe the good one, who knows ? It's a big stretch to assume he was insinuating that, and you seem to be granting a lot of your own interpretation to the nature of said criticism. What he's referring to there is scientific dogma. It's not world views that would be threatened; it's reputation and credibility. This is a well known problem in the scientific community today.

As far as I understand it, benzene-rings held in these structures allow the interfacing between the macro and the quantuum while anesthetics interrupt these and more or less only these, which lead to the hypothesis in the first place. Penrose and Hameroff are highly trained scientists and Penrose even got a nobel price. Both did not use intuitive spiritual beliefs but the theory certainly leaves a window open for those people. And why not, why cares and why would you?
