this is something we Filipinos should be proud of. i am definitely excited for this Horror film. A lot of great directors have great story telling and the Horror genre has definitely a flavorful selection to all us Filipino movie goers. From Eerie, Maledicto, Kuwaresma and now Clarita. I am excited for the future of Filipino Horror. Nakakaproud!!! 👏👏👏

the movie changed some storyline of the true events, but they really pulled it off. this is the first filipino horror movie that really gave me the chills. definitely a hands down to all who were behind this!

The Exorcism of Clarita Villanueva In 1953, 18-year-old Clarita Villanueva of Bacolod City hit the headlines both here and abroad. But unlike movie stars, the probinsyana became famous for what would turn out to be one of the most ‘legit’ cases of demonic possession in recorded history. Villanueva came to Manila after her parents died. She first worked as a maid before eloping with her lover. When she found out that her partner was already married, she immediately broke off with him and worked as a dancer. One night, while she’s on her way home after watching a late-night movie, Clarita was picked up by the police who suspected her of being a vagrant or homeless. That became her ticket to the Bilibid Prison. After a few days, her stay in the prison turned from mundane to hellish. The young girl claimed she began seeing strange creatures who would bite her several times in different parts of her body. She described ‘The Thing’ as two terrifying creatures, with the bigger one characterized by a curly hair, two fangs, and large eyes. During the attacks, Clarita would often scream, become hysterical, and lose consciousness. But it was the bite marks that sent chills to those who had personally witnessed how the young girl struggled with what others described as “invisible vampire.” No less than tough guy Mayor Arsenio Lacson, who visited the demon-possessed Clarita in the city morgue, claimed that he saw bite marks appear out of nowhere on the victim’s hands. Mariano Lara, the medical examiner, was scared out of his wits when he saw firsthand the demonic attacks. He also described the bite marks as otherworldly because they’re too large, round (human bite is elliptical), and seemed to have been made by molars. Medical experts struggled to come up with a concrete explanation. While others suspected Clarita to be suffering from insanity or a mental disorder known as ‘hysterical fugue,’ more people were convinced that it was a phenomenon that defy scientific explanation. In the end, hopelessness urged them to finally resort to exorcism to drive demons out of Clarita’s body. Rev. Lester Sumrall heeded the call. Assisted by two other Protestant ministers, Sumrall used the power of prayers to overcome the invisible devils. The following is an eyewitness account of Clarita’s exorcism: "“…Clarita’s countenance changed. She became wild-eyed and screamed at the minister before her, telling him to go away…At intervals, Clarita was meek as a lamb and, at the prodding of the minister, said that she liked Jesus Christ. The very next moment, however, she grew violent and cursed God and told the minister to go away…After about an hour, Clarita’s face seemed to soften…At this state, the minister recited the Lord’s Prayer and Clarita followed him. ..She indicated that ‘The Thing’ went out of the window. And the three ministers sang a joyous ‘Hallelujah'” Thanks to the sensational story of Clarita Villanueva, as much as 150,000 people who were moved by her deliverance reportedly accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior.

Honestly, sa KMJS ko lang nalaman ito.. and dude, ang galing talaga ng documentary ni Jessica, it feels like parang ang dami kong nalaman kay Clarita kahit almost 65 years na after she'd exorcist!! 😱

Watched this film once, and never repeat it again because of how scary and terrifying it was. This is still the best filipino horror movie for me, and it's based to true events. Wow, kudos to our one of the best actress in our country, Jodi Sta Maria for portraying it soo well, and the other artists, most especially the director, just wow.

4/10 A great upset! I watched the movie, and it didnt turn out as honest and original as posible. Ibang iba sa KMJS version, at sa write ups by the 1st hand witnesses. Sana naging honest ang production team sa story, it could have been a great horror film! It was Manipulated to fit the catholic beliefs, whereas it was the Power of God who drove away the demon through his messenger, a missionary pastor.

The point is may natutunan ka sa movie na yun.. first time ko nakapanood ng horror movie na may natutunan something na nakareflect ako.. minsan pag sobra na ung paghihirap natin nagagalit na tayo sa dyos oo na experience ko un.. andun na ako sa point na kung may dyos bakit hinahayaan nya na naging sobrang miserable ung buhay na sana di na lang ako nabuhay kung ganito lang din lang..dumating ako sa point na sinisisi at chinachallenge ko na ang Dyos.. believe me walang kahit anong religion ang magpapagaling sayo kundi ikaw mismo it’s between you and God kung paano mo sya tinanggap sa puso mo.. have deep talk with God by sincere prayer.. surrender everything sabihin mo lahat and humingi ng kapatawaran.. you will really feel the presence of God through sincere prayers ung galing sa puso talaga.. if you pray na hindi galing sa puso your words mind and prayers are empty and it’s not strong enough to separate our self from evil.. bilib ako sa movie na Ginampanan ni Jodi.. ung story is not about clarita and the demon but self reflect also.

Magaling talaga si Ms. Jodi sa mga horror, very effective. Una akong natakot sa kanya dun sa "patayin sa sindak si barbara" way back 2008 pa ata..

I just watched this the other day. I was excited because it was based on true events, and also because I'm an extreme horror fanatic. Jodi's performance actually surprised me. She was extremely good and convincing. The atmosphere of the movie was also consistently creepy. That's important for me because I like having that overall feel throughout the movie. Kumbaga, it doesn't need to rely on jump scares. Pero sadly, may jumpscares pa rin. I can forgive that because that has become the trend for a while now. The thing that I can't accept is their script. It was sooo inconsistent. 1953 nangyari. Yung iba old Filipino ang gamit pero yung iba Taglish. Because of that, I felt detached from their setting. Bat kasi may conyo magsalita?! Tas ang horror para sakin, dapat may story behind sa mga supernatural na lumilitaw sa movie. Ineexpect ko na ganun dito kasi nga based on true events. Pero parang pinagsama sama nalang nila yung mga sikat na horror scenes ever since tas sinalpak sa movie kahit it didn't make sense. So 6.5/10. And a large portion of that was because of Jodi's, Ricky's, and let's throw in Arron's acting.

i really, really, really love jodi's acting here. the cinematography, everything. however, the way the story was put out, was kinda off for me. idk it's just me. but still, kudos to thw whole team! (the original story gave me chills tho)
