I'm starting to think she stole the show in a number of ways. Kreuk was good, but they could never figure out much for her to do beyond being that unattainable goal. eventually the audience is left wondering why they should care given how big a deal Lois will eventually become. . . They wrote a ton of dialogue for Chloe -- she'd always nail it, then break your heart.

She actually did leave the show during season 10. She was even taken out of the opening credits, although it was cool though because when she did come back for a couple of guest appearances (including the finale) they did put her back into the opening credits rather than just list her as a guest star.

@@jwoods9659 poor writing. they should have wrapped that relationship up much sooner in the series. Mack was the superior actor and benefitted from being able to deliver a ton a dialogue, so naturally she wins over the audience. She's so active in the show by S4 you start to wonder what the big deal is with Lana. They were so at a lost with what to do with her they have her marry Lex. Meanwhile, Clark has matured and should be past the point of infatuation. Dragging it out made the switch from her to Lois feel implausible.

Michael Rosenbaum left the show voluntarily after season 7 because he felt the character of Lex had gone as far as it could. And Chloe actually did leave the show in the final season, only returning for a couple of guest appearances. They even took her name out of the opening credits

Before Erica Durance joined the show in Season 4 they did make a couple of hints that maybe Chloe would become Lois Lane. In particular there was an episode where she got an internship at the Daily Planet but ended up getting fired for some reason and continued to publish the story using her cousin's name of Lois Lane.

There was no Chloe in the comic books. Throughout his entire history Superman's first girlfriend was Lana Lang and eventually he end up with Lois Lane. It was inevitable. Fun fact though: the character of Chloe Sullivan was so popular that even though she was created for the TV series she did actually become a part of the comics!
