I love the Byzantines so much for its focus on city planning. Great units, coupled with many unique mechanics ensure replayability even in mirror match-ups. Can't find its flaw right now. For its unique units, I also like the Japanese but I have some quibbles about the Shinobi. I think the Koka Townhouse shouldn't be the Age 2 landmark choice because it's hard to justify going for shinobis that early; not much going on in your opponent's base, and by going Koka, your opponent instantly is aware of it. It'd be a much better option for the Age 3 building when chaos begins to start in the realm. That's where ninjas' roles are important.

He's mispronouncing Japanese words though? Well, except for 'manor'...I don't remember him saying 'maNOR' when talking about manor houses in AoE3, though, he must think that that's some Japanese word.

The japanese unit you ware wondering and why it cheap. "Ashigaru" means Pesant. Thats how they are clasified because in Fedual Japan most of the armies ware armed pesants, the Samurai are actually just an elite core. The important part is the first word which specifies the the weapon. Yumi - bow, Yari - spear, Naginata -the japanese version of a Hablered (the closest European counterpart) and the last version is Katana or Wakizashi Ashigaru or man at arms with long sword (Katana) or short (Wakizashi).

Onna-bugeisha, are just the word "Female martial artists" in Japanese Perhaps they play a role like Landsknechte? Not to specifically countering anyone, just doing some nice damage.

@@duongtieuta223 It's different by context. Onna-musha is more of a female samurai. They are nobleladies (often daughters of samurai), some of them are required to learn martial arts and to obey the doctrines of samurai, then she's a qualified Onna-musha which can assist her father, husband, brothers or even sons on the battlefield. While onna-bugeisha is the practicer(and often master) of any kind of Japanese martial arts (especially with weapons). Nowadays there's still onna-bugeisha, but no more onna-musha. Since the samurai class is abolished, so are their female counterparts.

Yumi ashigaru literarly means something like "peasant bowmen". Yumi is a japanese assimetric bow, and ashigaru is a name for all commoner troops. And onna bugeisha is just a common name for warrior women in feudal japan as you cannot call a woman samurai or give her katana even if she is some nobles daughter and fighting most of her life. THey used two similar names for two types of female warriors.

yumi ashigaru (弓足軽) = bow foot light -> Archer footsoldier. onna bugeisha (女武芸者) = woman martial arts person -> female warrior Not to disagree with the other information in your comment, just adding clarity for what a literal translation of what the above terms would be.

samurais sounds like anti knights with the negating chargue thing, but i thing that the meta will go with the mounted xbows, kinda like rus horse archer, but with extra bonus against armor, i have not seen the age of noob explain videos so i still dont know what oil does , was expecitng drongo to say a few words about it.

everything is cool, i love all th civs apart the variants... i dunno, same base civ looks low content compared to the new ones. Bizantium is cool but i was it plays more with his units than getting mercenary from everywhere. people will play only few civs now.

I love the olive oil concept, at first glance it almost seems insulting but then you realize how valuable it actually was back then and how much sense it makes that people from far away would be willing to risk their lives for such a luxury

SAS proved that the income rates for the Japanese can match an opposing economy with 50% more villagers. Saw this in Beasty’s match against the Japanese too. But in that game and this one, I’m not seeing the Japanese players making counter units. They’re just trying to use Samurai but not even spamming them well. So weird.

Because they're just showmatches it could be the pros just trying out different things. Hyper fixation on samurai is bad, and we've seen beasty go heavy into onna musha to great effect, so these things will get ironed out

Not, that it's a word with two "mora" (something like a syllable/phoneme), one of those is a "dai", but this is an open "a" different from the English one and the other is a "myo" that works in the same way as the Tokyo or the Kyoto kyo.

@@dkmark7802phoneme is the base unit of a language, you can just say syllable, saying to-kyo is right to say there are two phoneme, that being the Chinese characters 东京, but also saying it’s two syllables is more understandable, because in such languages as ancient Egyptian on phoneme doesn’t exactly equal on syllable
