Marvellous. Fresh and full of interest. Great sound palette. A relentless march collapsing into anarchy only to try again. Brilliant percussionist as foley artist. Loved it. This is the sound track to an anarchic bit of arthouse anime... perhaps Howl's Moving Castle? I think whilst Elsa seemed unconvinced I think Rita enjoyed the venture. She has always been the more adventurous in the kinds of art-jazz she has run towards, with Kaleidoscope, Marti Serra (and his aerophones), Perico Sambeat's art projects with her brother...

For me the music is like a reunion with avant-garde music in the field of jazz as well as contemporary "classical" music of the 60s and 70s. With like-minded musicians we tried out aleatoric music or music of coincidence, free improvisation or free jazz and integration of noise into music. The female musicians - some of them come from the musical "cantera" of charismatic Joan Chamorro in Barcelona - still seem to me a bit unsure of improvising freely. No doubt, they can improvise (there are a plenty of examples of it on KZfaq) but only more or less within the secure A-A-B-A scheme of jazz and latin standards. I love listening to the sax-solo by Christina Miguel. But what really stands out is Lucia Martinez on drums. What she's inventing enriches the whole composition. With her energy she reminds me of drummer Anna Lund from the Scandinavian female All Star Band at Jazz Baltica in Germany. Frankly, the arrangement by Blanca Barranco only partially convinces me. Too bombastic, too much film music á la "Ben Hur" from the 50s, too military. (Is Ptah a god of war or a creator god?) A reason not to own the music? Not at all. I will buy the CD because Alice Coltrane's music is rarely performed. I also buy it because of my respect for the young Spanish/ Catalan female musicians whose professional path in the jazz field will be a burdensome even after the pandemic.

Some progressive stuff especially with the percussion. Great work.

Wow, wow, wow that was wonderful!!! Ladies, please keep performing for us, that was fantastic!!! You all made me think of my mother who was in an all women U.S. Military Army Corps marching band during World War II. She would have been so proud of each and every one of you!!!

Fantastic free and "antiphonal" arrangement, letting the horn sections shine. Even more interresting than than the original "swing" version, I think. I wish I could play with such a rhythm section one day. But it might be too late for me.

All the postings so far seem to be positive, but this is not my cup of tea. I did not like it back in the day and I do not like it now. "If it ain't got that swing, it don't mean a thing". The thing that irritates me is that all of the talented young women from the Sant Andreu Jazz Band just have to sit there while the drummer swings a rope. That is music? Not for me.
