I love your videos. Very informative. I applied for numerous conductor positions at NS, CSX and BNSF. I've been contacted by NS and sent my five question video interview link. I just watched this video and have a better idea of what to expect. Thanks for the info.

I've been laid off from my general contractor (laborer/union) job since September 2020 and have been working side jobs and part time jobs. Have been considering conductor for a few months now. Quit smoking weed 5 months ago, rarely drink alcohol, not married nor have kids and am 40. Not asking for tips. Just subscribed and wanted to share. Enjoy your authentic videos.

Whenever you had your live virtual interview on hireview. Did they come on at the scheduled time? Because this is the second time in a row where they haven't come on for me. Mine was scheduled for 10 am I've been sitting here for 20 minutes. Everything is working on my end it just says waiting for interviewer to start my interview. Any help?

Who do you call to ask questions about your application progress? HR at the local yard or who, and how would you get their number?

I'm doing the first video interview today with UP. What kind of questions do they ask? As far as the medical history goes, do they simply rely on what you divulge to the doctor at your physical as I'm used to as a Teamster who does a biannual DOT or do they actually require you waive HIPA so they can get medical records from insurers, etc.

Got about a year prior. Got the pre recorded questions and have a live interview with hiring managers in the morning. Didn't get the assessments as of yet. Applied for Cincinnati.

@@absoluteblockproduction2039 Thank you, think it went well this morning. I had asked the recruiter about the the furlough possibility. Because I got tired of hearing scare tactics on facebook. As it was explained to me they are hiring to account attrition. Right now, they want to get the medical and background out of the way. But you could be waiting awhile for a class. Which isn't a real deal breaker for me. I should know by Friday.
@absoluteblockproduction20394 жыл бұрын
Yes their goal right now is to get people through the initial phases of the process and make a hiring list to when they’re ready to hire, they pull right from the list and can start right away.

@@absoluteblockproduction2039 got through the live interview, was supposed to know today yay or nay. They took the posting down a day or two ago. Put it back up yesterday. Now my app indicates closed. With them still advertising on the website for that location. No rejection letter as of yet or anything. I'd say it ain't looking good this time around.

Mark Payne it took me 3 years of trying before I finally got on. Hey f it’s something you want to do don’t give up and keep trying. It’s a weird time to be getting on with any class 1 out there. I lucked out and am on a busy hub in the system.

Hey I have a question what would happen if you struggle through the program or the training such as like having a difficult time pass tests and stuff Would Norfolk Southern still keep you
@absoluteblockproduction20393 жыл бұрын
No. While in Georgia they have certain testing requirements to pass. There’s a minimal passing score and then an attempt rate which some tests you can take up to 3 times to try and pass. The HAZMAT exam is pass or fail and only one try ( it’s open book and there’s absolutely no reason to fail). The signals test is usually the tests that gets people because your only allowed one wrong answer out of about 40 questions and it’s easy to get tripped up. If you end up failing any tests in Georgia, your employment is done and your sent home. If you graduate and get back on to the division for OJT, there’s characteristics tests and other tests to be done and some have different pass/fail requirements.

Curious of the pay also sir. I’m waiting for my background and medical to clear through NS @ Allentown PA for a conductor position right now myself.
@absoluteblockproduction20394 жыл бұрын
Chris Morris our training rate is $800 a week from the first day at Georgia til you mark up so your on that rate of pay for a few months. Yeah nice you mark up you get your 85% rate of a guaranteed $51k a year. Many new conductors make over that their first year depending on how busy jobs are.

@@absoluteblockproduction2039 I don't understand: IF $51K is 'guaranteed', what is this 85% thingy? After you're 'mark up', are you salary or hourly? People say most conductors make more than the minimum 'guaranteed', so I am assuming it is an hourly position whereby if you don't work X amount of hours you're still 'guaranteed' A, but if you work more than X, ...what?...do you get paid time and a half? And again, what is this 85% about? 85% of $51K is $43,350 = IS THIS therefore the TRUE minimum guaranteed pay??? Also, what is the weekly, bi-weekly or monthly union dues amount? And finally, what is the weekly, bi-weely or monthly medical insurance portion paid by the employee? Thank you
