Q 2 of exercise 1.3 3+2 root 5 = a/b 2 root 5 = a/b-3 Root 5 = a/2b-3/2 We know that root 5 is irrational so a/2b-3/2 = irrational so 3+2 root 5 = irrational

Let we assume tha 3+2√5 is rational no.where a and b are co primes 2√5 = a-3/b (taking LCM ) √5 = a-3b/2a A and b are integers : A and b is rational no. So a-3b/2a is also rational no. And √5 Is also rational But, we know √5 is irrational So our assumption is worng or incorrect Hence, we conclude that 3+2√5 is irrational no. (Hence proved)

Prove that 3+2root5 Let us assume to the contrary that 3+root5 is rational So, 3+2 root5 = a/b( a and b are co prime) 2 root5=a/b -3 root5=a/2b-3/2 Now, a and b are in the form of p/q So, it os rational But, we know that root5 is irrational So,our assumption is wrong So, we can conclude that 3+2root5 is irrational.
