For those of you wondering what the song name at 3:30 in the video is, its called "Endless Motion," by Bensound.

Surely will be the death knell for all remaining Class 08's working in main yards sadly, but what a great loco this looks like.

Certainly is a very impressive engine. I have to admit I was surprised they would even make a new type of shunter as todays fixed formation trains had all but taken work away from the existing class 08s but for all that as mentioned the engines on the mainline still had to waste fuel and do the shunting themselves. In their own right these things might even spark of a new shunting revolution. The engine itself reminds me somewhat of an American Switcher. Will be interesting to see what the model itself looks like.

Hi Ben and Mike - exciting project (i can’t believe I missed this previously). Once this is done in OO, please consider recreating it in other scales - I would snap one up in O gauge, and probably N too!

Its quite astonishing how the 08 just chunders along, the pre-WW2 LMS design is just about indestructible and would be such a shame to see them finally go. I remember when I commuted on the old Clapham to Olympia line one day instead of the 33 and 4TC, there was two 09's sitting afront the TC and the journey was still quite brisk as the 09's were the racehorses in the shunter class :)

It will be interesting to see how well this does. I may consider a purchase when further details are available, also when I can see confirmed price.. I remember only too well the announcement of the Ransom and Rapier crane with an estimated price of £60, that grew to £250.

The price is confirmed as the models can be pre-ordered now from Rails of Sheffield. The Ransom and Rapier crane is not produced by Revolution.

Very informative video, great way to announce your new model, I feel more familiar now with its odd looking design. I think it will be worth getting it lit up as per the prototype. My mind boggles as to what future road names you will be able to produce. Maybe you could do a limited edition of a boxed set of the first three locomotive liveries?

Very impressive locomotive, most shunting locomotives in major Australian yards for intermodal express or heavy minerals train formation are in the order of 3,000 to 4,000hp, with 2,000hp not sufficient to lift the loads and thus main line locomotives are used as yard shunters. I wonder how much horsepower CBD90 is in old terms? I wish you success with the venture...

When shunting at slow speeds, tractive effort/torque are key. Power is directly related to speed, and these are designed for slow speed applications, so power is less important

As someone who is mostly interested in North American prototypes model, and realizes that he wants to do the British side of the hobby in OL, this locomotive greatly interests me and I am glad you announced it. What other operators will be included as well as the three here, as I thought these three where the only buyers so far?

They have been waiting to complete Network Rail acceptance trials as they will 'touch' the network. Other than Sellafield and Tata, who have half a dozen between them, I understand the next corporate customer other than GBRf will take their first two next month.

That thing is designed to replace to 08s? I don’t think that thing will be suitable for shunting. As it looks a tad bit to long to be a shunter. But that’s just my opinion.

I think because of the core reliability and low maintainence of the class 08, I think it will take more than the class 18 to take them down.
@revolutiontrains
@revolutiontrains 2 жыл бұрын
The Class 08 has been a stalwart servant to the railways in Britain for more than 60 years, but is increasinly too costly in both emissions and maintenance. Spares are hard to get. Freight companies have been using mainline locomotives as 'super shunters' because 08s are no longer fit for purpose. But this is wasteful, and as freight traffic picks up unsustainable. The Class 18 may not be the only answer, but it is certainly in the mix.

Let me see if I have this right. You can charge it up with electricity generated by whatever means you use in your country or area. It has a diesel engine so it uses fossil fuels there as well. My electric car has a sticker on the back window that says the following “This vehicle runs on natural gas, coal and nuclear power and 1/10 of 1% wind. As a business we own a couple hybrids and one total electric vehicle. So you’re not talking to a disbeliever.
@mikehale3930
@mikehale3930 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it needs charging from a fixed source, regenerative braking or its onboard diesel. Obviously how much will depend on how it is being used. Large amounts (up to around 60-65% of the UK’s power is generated from renewables/low carbon sources - the average for the year is around 50%) so still much better than a diesel shunter.
@yt650
@yt650 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikehale3930 Just for my own perspective I looked up how many square miles in the UK versus the US. The US is 40 times larger than the UK and significantly more issues generating power mostly because of Topography.
