Class 319 where brilliant on Thameslink. Both on AC and DC and have the same traction noise.

Yeh they are not too bad really, Definitely more comfortable than the 700's that have taken their place, but hopefully they should be returning south as bi mode class 769's :)

It is pretty cool though. I've had similar experiences of trains running parallel with a motorway with the M602 running alongside the Chat Moss line into Manchester and the WCML running alongside a significant portion of the M6 from Lancaster heading north and the A74(M) from the Scottish borders.

Yes that's correct, this is on the slow line which is mostly used by Luton-Sutton trains, So I imagine it was around 120 km/h (75 MPH)

@@Juniper458 not a transformer its the converted called DC pwm (pulse width modulation)
@Trainman107153 жыл бұрын
@@tob19 it is a transformer he was refering to, when on ac you hear the transformer hum constatly, which then intensifies just before the pwm kicks in upon the application of power to the motors, you also hear more clucks as power is applied on ac as you hear the additional gear within the transformer, which is not needed on dc, sorting itself out

Whats the difference? Ac and Dc have the same sound.
@Martindyna8 ай бұрын
Yes very similar. The AC usually results in a more aggressive traction motor sound due to slightly higher Voltage once rectified. AC introduces transformer hum (25 kV down to about 800 V) which is most evident when stationary.

AC better.
