I think the short Breathe reprise at the end of Time is stunningly succinct and insightful. We'd rather take comfort in magic spells than face our own mortality. Safe from harm.

When I was 13 14 this album was played in a lot of houses and if I'm honest I never really got it ...but then at 28 I came across a copy of dark side of the moon and 'Time and Us and them ' just blew me away .I have to be honest I'd not long ago lost my father and this music really opened up my mind and I think the beauty lies in the inevitability of it ...life is fleeting and this that can be a sad thought but it also means that we get to hear and see great things In the time that we are here and for me the song 'time' just captures it all

“Time” was actually released almost 50 years ago in 1973. I saw Pink Floyd perform this song live on 2 different occasions. Maybe the multiple alarm clocks all going off at the beginning of the song were a wake up call about the song’s message.

"The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older..." Another one of those double entendres Roger liked to throw in back in those days. "Relative" to 'your growing old'', and "relative way" as in Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, where time is relative-in other words, the rate at which time passes depends on your frame of reference. Gravity warps space and the more massive an object is, say the Sun, the more space and time are warped. Nice little reference from Rog.

This song gets more relevant the older you get:). The low rumble at the start is actually the fade-out from 'On the Run'. You actually heard two tracks, the transition into Breathe Reprise is after 'Thought I'd something more to say....'

The more late 60’s and 70’s classic rock music you hear, the more you’ll discover the volume of amazing songs that were produced during those decades. I have a theory about that. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd set the standard of quality that everyone else aspired to achieve. And every band attempted to do so. The result is an amazing collection of high quality lyrics and musicianship from those three, and many others, that the world can enjoy for decades to come. The classic rock rabbit hole is deep, my friend, but you are guaranteed to enjoy the ride. I really enjoyed your reaction. New subscriber here based on this. Well done.

Another great studio cut from Pink Floyd is "Dogs" The one that says w/lyrics is a good one. This is a long track about 17 minutes but it is well worth it. Just listening the way they construct the song is just out of sight. It is a journey and some have said life changing. I would recommend it.

Great insight Dude, Pink Floyd is just soooo Legendary, and you seem to have tapped into what they are all about, good job on you Bro! Pink Floyd IS an experience, they ARE a Vibe. I'm a huge PF fan and have been for almost 50 years, and I watch a lot of Pink Floyd reactions. Some folks, not a lot but some, do not get Pink Floyd at all, they have no clue. So, I really enjoy seeing young, smart people theta really get Pink Floyd, really get their music, and you're one of them! The way you operate your reactions is the best I've seen to date, you know how to react to epic music, and I appreciate that. Thanks.

A good clue to help understand this album is that it's main theme revolves around: “WHAT DRIVES PEOPLE CRAZY”. (BREATHE); If the performance required in life can drive people crazy. (ON THE RUN); If the frantic rush of life can drive people crazy. (TIME); If the fleeting aspect of passing time can drive people crazy. (THE GREAT GIG IN THE SKY); If the thought of the inevitable end (death), can drive people crazy. (MONEY); If love, or lack of money can drive people crazy. (US AND THEM); If the abusive hierarchy between color, power or wealth between US AND THEM can drive people crazy. (ANY COLOR YOU LIKE); If the illusion of being able to choose can drive people crazy. (BRAIN DAMAGE); If the many rules of life (keep off the grass), or the fear of losing your mind can drive people crazy. (ECLIPSE); Since our influence in this world comes down to what is within our reach, "All that you touch, see, taste, love, do, say, etc" then even though the brightness of the sun may be eclipsed by the darkness of the moon. But anyway, “There is no dark side of the moon really, matter of fact it’s all dark. The only thing that makes it look light is the sun”.

There's always a deep truth in Roger Waters lyrics, and if you notice, Dave Gilmours guitar solo starts off with a "bright young" feeling that towards the end becomes "older and more melancholic". But if you want to see the whole picture you really need to do the album The Dark Side of the Moon in two hits (side 1 / side 2) because the themes of light & dark, life & death, sanity & insanity, wealth & poverty run seamlessly from track to track😉

The Floyd always has a message behind their music, and this song especially has always had a dual meaning to me, and I think it's lost on a lot of people. YES, Pink Floyd wanted to tell society that time never steps for anyone, and if you blink you'll miss it. If you're not careful life will pass you by. That is ABSOLUTELY one of the messages I think Pink Floyd wanted to convey. But the other message, that I think a lot of people don't recognize when they listen to Time is that it's NEVER too late to start living life! You could be 15 or 55 or 75 and you can STILL find ways to enjoy life! The part at the end about coming home and just enjoying sitting by the fire and hearing the church bells in the distance is part of that message. That after everything a touring rock band, one of the biggest bands in the world, goes through, it's stil a cherished moment to come home and just sit by a fireplace. It's LIVING LIFE to it's fullest. It's NEVER too late to enjoy life. That's what I get from this song.

I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know

Now it is a reminder that life is short and to make it count

@@NAIATHEDRAGON You need to hear/react to Great Gig In The Sky......I met David Gilmour back stage at a concert in California 1984. I asked him about the meaning - reason for “Great Gig In The Sky”…. David’s answer was something like…. .I was asked if Pink Floyd would ever do a song about Religion like some others have… so I said, You are referring to the great gig in the sky they call god. What words could be used to describe all the pain and suffering caused by religious beliefs. All the crying and wailing from mothers who lost their husbands or sons in a war fought over religious differences. The only vocals should be just the sound of a mothers crying with pain and suffering. We didn’t want to make that public so as to avoid any religious boycott like what happened to the Beatles after Lennon made his comment about Jesus. The speaking heard at the beginning was recorded at Apple records prior to the recording of the song. Roger Waters placed a recorder at the door asking anyone who walked by to answer some questions into the microphone. The janitor stopped and recorded his answer to the question….”Are You Afraid Of Dying”?. It was decided to add the recording to the start of “Great Gig In The Sky”. It leads people to believe the song is about dying, but that is actually not the case. The Great Gig In The Sky…is GOD … Clare did not know what they wanted. David Gilmour told her to pretend her voice is a Saxophone like on other songs on the album, no words, just tones. Results are legendary.

You really must listen to the whole album, from start to finish. It is not a collection of songs, but rather like a book with chapters. Just before the alarm clocks, was a nightmare, and after this one is an incredible rendering of the stages of death (the great gig in the sky). Their live shows were as incredible as the music, or more so. I saw them live in 1977. There is a decent live show with all Dark Side of the Moon songs and here is Time from that show: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fa1ip71_tLe7cXU.html (Pink Floyd - Time (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited)) That concert has all of Dark Side of the Moon in it, and it is well done regards the sound and video quality, well worth watching. Here is the next one from the Album, "The Great Gig in the Sky": (not as good as the original vocal by Claire Tory, but not bad) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rL2KacuerdCWfXU.html (Pink Floyd - The Great Gig In The Sky (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited)) And then comes "Money" - as good as or better than the original: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qM2dlsiQvdvPgoU.html (Pink Floyd - Money (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited)) And I'll cap off this post with "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse" which is how the album ends: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7aen71zm77NfWw.html (Pink Floyd - Brain Damage (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited)) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r8ufm7eXuZvKk4k.html (Pink Floyd - Eclipse (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited))

There are several, and certainly ALL of their most well-known albums, that are 'concept' albums. These were, at LEAST the first time ever hearing them, meant to be heard from first song to last song, in order, uninterrupted. Otherwise, listening to a song from any of these albums, is like reading a chapter from a book. You can really enjoy the song for itself, but will NOT understand it fully because you're missing all the surrounding context. For instance, you actually just listened to 2 songs, Time, and Breathe (Reprise), and did not even know it! Well, these albums tend to do that. The major Pink Floyd concept albums are Dark Side of The Moon 1973, Wish You Were Here 1975, Animals 1977 and The Wall 1979.
