The fact a CSL can be included with a GT3 and 360CS shows BMW knew what they were doing back in the late 90s to early 2000s. An era that is truly missed!

That M3 CSL has a timeless design like no other car of that year! The intake noise, the interior. For me the dreamcar of my whole life.

The E46 M3 and CSL variant have aged extremely well. They look outstanding on the road next to new cars!

It's a very nice film. In my opinion, these vehicles are the sweet spot of Driver Cars. Quasi the golden era. I also have a pair of E46 M3s and just haven't been able to get away from them for 12 years. These new-fashioned Turboboxes with XXX screens, emotionless motors, brakes and steering ... no thanks, I'll stick with them here.

Great video! Filming was awesome and the sound quality inside the cars was great. And I’ve filmed enough in cars to know that’s not an easy thing to do.

I would happily own any of these but ended up owning the one that I lusted after from new the 360 CS. For me it’s the noise and near race car driving experience that ticks all the boxes. This and my ex world rally car make such great noises and a great sight on the back roads. Great video guys keep up the good work. 👍

The GT3RS every day. I was lucky enough to own a 2003 996 GT2 (yes, GT2, not GT3) for a few years, and that thing was a weapon. No traction control, no electronic nannies, no driver aids, except ABS on the Carbon Ceramic brakes the car came with. I tracked that car, and once you got the front end geometry fixed it was utterly brilliant. I was a track driving instructor, and used to track it with GT3RS and GT3Rs, Vipers, Corvettes, and I was consistently shocked at just how good it was. The GT3 and GT2 of that era, were some of the last Porsches that were raw, unaided and relied purely on driving talent and ability to drive at the limit; no intervening nannies to save your ass.

out of these 3, I honestly believe the CSL is the best sounding car.. makes me cherish my E46 M3 even more (even though it's not a CSL).. btw, WHAT A MASTERPIECE OF A VIDEO!!

The CSL came from an era when BMW were on top of their game, with the bastardisation of turbo BMW like most other manufacturers have moved away from engine craftsmanship to sourcing bolts on blowers for power and outlandish bhp for instant performance, there are real drivers cars. Certainly from the great era of NA engine. Thanks for sharing.

For a pure drivers car, the 996RS is not only the easy winner of this test but the greatest 996 and indeed the greatest ever GT3 ! All those that followed were remote and over polished by comparison. One of the greatest 911’s as well, very few modern cars are as rewarding or ask so much of the driver.

Lovely scenery/roads/cars and cinematography. 10/10. I would love to own a 360CS out of the 3. But CSL is a very close 2nd.

i remember the first CSL i ever saw. it was parked up down a back street. me and this random guy just stopped and stared at it for a while. we didnt know each other but we both had the exact same reaction. we walked round it just pointing out the amazing attention to detail to each other. then we went our separate ways. i own a silver grey regular E46 M3 now. but one day i hope i can get hold of a CSL. its the complete car for me.

3 great cars from a time that produced some fantastic drivers cars. I would pick the GT3rs though I'm a bit biased having owned a Gen 1 996 GT3 Club Sport for many years. Mine had a Manthey K400 upgrade which included a re-map & exhaust resulting in close to 400bhp and a fantastic soundtrack thanks to the M&M exhaust (stock GT3's sound too quiet imo). The GT3rs officially produced 375 but most put out north of 400bhp on a dyno. Love both the 360CS & M3CSL but a shame neither of these came with a manual option as personally not a fan of early paddle shift gearboxes.

These Vehicles were literally Super Hero's amongst cars, now they are Icons! Driving experiences that car makers till this day try to copy!

All three of these cars have aged incredibly well, but that 360CS is just epic...what a sound, what a car!!

They're different really and I like them all. If I had to choose though, I'd take the Beemer CSL...a truly special machine contrived from the humble 3-Series....

Sound quality captured of the engines and exhaust were epic. It's not easy to do since most videos never do the CSL engine sound justice. Great great video!

I've had 3 E46 M3's, including 2 comp cars (1 SMG, 1 Manual). All awesome, wish I'd held on to them all now. SMG gets a much harder reputation than it deservers, coming from a manual enthusiast, SMG is almost more fun when you are on it. E46 M3 best car I've ever owned (coming from B7 RS4, B5 RS4, C6 Z06, Numerous STI's, Mustangs, E36 M3, VW GTI's, R's etc)

There s been a noticeable quality progression of SCD videos lately. So i wanted to note that. I'd say you up your narration game and might enter the top level guys like Hagerty atm. The choice of 2003 theme, cars pick and cinema are really spot on for the time. Something that really have an actuality and interest. Thank you for your content.

The fact they a had an M3 with literal track gods tells you how good BMW was back then.

In november 13the I've encountered a BMW M3 CSL e46 on the TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands and also a Porsche GT3. But the BMW M3 CSL was so fast I wasn't able to keep up with my trackbuild Audi A4 B5 1.8i 20vt. Great video! Thanks you guys for taking us back in time!

Amazing video and review, these cars are crazy, all different but all special.

That was a brilliant video. Loved the transitions between the cars. Roads looked pretty good too. Made me feel old though; I remember watch the CSL review on TG at uni. It must have kit a real impression because I bloody love them snd of that three it’s the one that I’d want to own. That induction noise is worth it alone. Crazy to think that at the time people didn’t get them or the concept of paying more for less.

Pure driving machines! The craziest thing about these early 2000’s na sports cars is neither of them have more than 400nm of torque. Which is what you get from a 2.0 turbo diesel these days. It’s just nuts 🤯

Living on a main driving road into Wales which attracts a lot of supercars, I can always recognise a 360 CS coming up the valley, from a half mile away. Such a distinctive and fantastic noise.
