Welcome aboard, Class of 2021!
The Class of 2021's Induction Day includes behind-the-scenes footage of in processing in Alumni Hall; the Welcome Aboard Picnic for parents, family and friends hosted by the Alumni Association and Foundation with members of the Another Link in the Chain Class of 1971; the Oath of Office Ceremony in Tecumseh Court; and the final farewells before Plebe Summer begins for the incoming midshipmen.
Induction Day or I-Day is the official name for the first day of Plebe Summer at the United States Naval Academy. Typically held in late June or early July, this is the day on which the members of the newest Naval Academy class arrive in Annapolis; for most, it is also their first day in the military.
The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association and the United States Naval Academy Foundation are two independent, not-for-profit corporations sharing a single president and CEO and operating as a fully integrated organization in support of the Naval Academy and its mission. The organization’s focus and core competencies are engagement and philanthropy in pursuit of complementary and closely aligned missions. The course set by Alumni Association founders in 1886 rings true today as the Alumni Association serves and supports the United States, the Naval Service, the Naval Academy and its alumni:
› by furthering the highest standards at the Naval Academy;
› by seeking out, informing, encouraging and assisting outstanding, qualified young men and women to pursue careers as officers through the Naval Academy;
› by initiating and sponsoring activities which perpetuate the history, traditions, memories and growth of the Naval Academy and bind alumni together in support of the highest ideals of command, citizenship and government.

Looking at the attire of the incoming Class of 1971 compared to the current day Class is eye opening. 4:29 Every incoming Midshipman had a Tie and Jacket or a Navy Enlisted Uniform back in the "old days." Now its shorts and t-shirts. I was Class of 1965 - on my I day in 1961 I wore my Enlisted White Uniform. My Father wore a suit, my mother and siblings appropriate attire for the day attire. Another difference, no one had eyeglasses back in the day... seems maybe 10-15% of current class are bespectacled. Not criticizing, just noting! I wish all of the new Class Smooth Sailing and Following Seas... and of course, BEAT ARMY! *s/Retired 24 Year US Navy Submariner - USNA Class of 1965 - Former Enlisted Man*

I've heard the young people who go to these schools say they applied to shag after a ball not to many talk about serving their country as an officer in our armed forces .

"You've heard?" No one makes it through these schools without a very sincere desire to serve. If someone went to the Air Force Academy to become an airline pilot, they'll never graduate. No one goes to the USMA or USNA wanting to be a CEO. Schools like Princeton are there for that goal.
