ආයුබෝවන්.Life On Rails KZfaq චැනල් එකෙන් ගෙන එන "Class Y වතගොත" වීඩියෝවට ඔබව සාදරයෙන් පිලිගන්නවා.
Hello.Welcome to the "About Class Y" Video from Life On Rails KZfaq Channel.
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
Everything in the video about the Class Y engine has been translated into English. I think it is better than our foreign subscribers.
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
👉Train Class - Y
👉Year of import - 1969
👉Country of manufacture - England (Hunslet Company)
👉Train Engine Type - Diesel Hydraulic
👉Power supply engine - Rolls Royce DV8T
👉Maximum power - 530hp
👉 Maximum speed - 37 km / h
👉Axle Arrangement - 0-C-0
👉Weight - 44.2 Tons
👉Color - Black (with Red Cowcatcher Plate)
👉Engine length - 25 feet
👉Number of locomotives - 28 (No 675-702)
These small engines are called shunting engines. That is, these engines are used not for passenger transport but for shunting. Shunting is the process of moving carriages, freight cars, fuel tanks, etc. in the yard and assembling the necessary train sets. These locomotives also sometimes return the carriages of the completed trains to the railway grounds. Their to-do list can be summarized as follows.
👉Assembling train sets carrying carriages in railway yards
👉Transporting the sets of trains to be started at the station (when the main engine is late or if there is no other engine when the engine has to be picked up at the main station)
👉Return of completed train sets back to the railway yard (if there is no other engine when the main engine is used for another train)
👉Bringing damaged locomotives or train sets to the relevant places
👉Shipment of repaired locomotives, carriages, wagons etc. to the factories and bring them back to the railway yards after repairs.
👉Fuel tanker transport and freight wagons trains for short distance transport (eg - bringing fuel compartments from Kolonnawa to Colombo)
👉Transportation of short service trains (trains transporting materials, equipment and personnel for road repairs)
👉Transportation and other work in railway factories (eg Cement Factories - Not currently in use)
Thus you will now understand the role of these small engines. The power supply of this engine, which performs such a large amount of work, is as small as 530 horsepower. But it's unique in that it can do more than two or three times as much power as the average engine. As a recent example, there are many instances where these Y engines can easily pull the entire set with some locomotives that are inoperative without being able to pull the train with several fuel tanks. Just as an ant can lift several times its own weight, it is truly astonishing that this ant in the railways does so much more than its size.
Although these engines are sometimes used for freight trains, they are never used for passenger trains. However, the Lankadeepa Diyatha supplement published some time ago about a brave railway officer who, with the help of this locomotive, drove several carriages carrying a group of railway employees and their families trapped at a railway station during the terrorist conflict. It was H.L.R Fonseka, a former foreman at the Dematagoda railway track.
Happily, all but one of these engines are still in good working condition. Engine No. 691 was destroyed in a fire in January 2001 in the Orugodawatta area and could not be repaired. This type of locomotive can also be found at the Maradana Railway Station, the Ratmalana Factory and at railway stations such as Anuradhapura, Mahawa, Galle and Kandy. These locomotives can travel on any route of the Sri Lanka Railways.
