Happy belayed Star Wars Day Valerie! I absolutely loved your Heathcliff/Anakin call - that is so true. I too really like the prequels (at least most of them) although I probably do love Empire Strikes Back more and I have a soft spot for The Force Awakens as its the first one I saw. Hmm I can’t think of a chosen one trope in a classic novel either; that’s a hard one!

Thank you, Lisa! Happy belated Star Wars day to you as well! I also really love Empire Strikes Back. And it is a hard one! It’s such a common trope now but I think it was a lot less common in the past

A Space Trilogy by C.S. Lewis might qualify as a chosen one classic trope novel. If you’re unfamiliar with it here’s a quote from Wikipedia: “The Space Trilogy or Cosmic Trilogy is a series of science fiction novels by C.S. Lewis. The trilogy consists of Out of the Silent Planet (1938), Perelandra (1943), and That Hideous Strength (1945). A philogist named Elwin Ransom is the protagonist of the first two novels and an important character in the third. The third novel was my favorite. Thanks for bringing this topic to the table, Valerie, I enjoyed it!

Fascinating choices! I'm not a massive Star Wars fan; but I do like the Star War prequels at least as much as the original films. Would 'Le Morte d'Arthur' count for a classic 'chosen one' story?

Thank you! I think that one would count!

Speaking of Star Wars being Shakespearean, have you read the Shakespeare versions of the Star Wars movies? They are called "William Shakespeare's Star Wars" and their written by Ian Doescher. I think he's done all 9 movies, I know he's done at least 6 of them. I think they are very well done.

I actually received a boxed set of the original trilogy for Christmas last year! I’m definitely excited to read them I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Glad to hear they’re well done!

@@ThornfieldBooks My boys read them when they were in Junior High or so and thought they were pretty funny. I thought it was a fun way to introduce them to Shakespeare. I definitely would have enjoyed Shakespeare more if I had had these books as an introduction!
