Cotto's poker face is brilliant. Notice that every time he gets hit really hard, he plants his feet, ducks a bit, and moves his upper body smoothly like he's okay, even though he isn't. That's some veteran shit right there. He knows how to look OK even when he's hurt.

The funny thing, is that cotto did agree... he didn't complain, if you watch carefully, you'll see at the end of the fight how Cotto accepts without anyproblem his deffeat... Because he is a real man, and knows to accept.

Kinda true but as a fan I believe the clottey fight was almost clotteys. That was one of his best fights ever. To be honest I didn't like his sequel with margarito. Margarito was lucky to get a shot with his journey man record at the time. But yeah the clottey fight was epic, a movie of its own. He had one eye fucked up and clotteys leg was fucked up and they made it all the way to the bell.

Funny enough, I think this version of Cotto was the closest to beat Canelo, even with this age. Cotto in 2015 had a great footwork and stamina, better stamina than even in his prime when he was gassing out on the later rounds. Roach really prepared Cotto well.

Lemon26 exactly! It’s Canelos head movement and shoulder rolls that makes him so hard to hit. Lomachenko is extremely difficult to hit because of his footwork. Mayweather with his defensive style, jab then straight right then back to quick defense makes him very hard to hit and with Canelo its his shoulder roll and how he turns his head going away from punches to decrease the power behind them.

if no one is fighting GGG then to me that shows he is this era's prime tyson I know it's a different weight class but same principle? I really want a canelo/cotto vs GGG just to see if he is a legit reason for people avoiding him! I know ward is ready or at least he says he is but in all fairness ward is a technician he is like mayweather just higher weight class (I believe) very technical and a sturdy boxer...not a fighter! a fighter will go into a ring and not worry about defending that much (haggler/hearns) but either way - someone A class needs to step up to GGG or he needs to step his game up to prove he is this legitimate bad ass

@M B a power punch might score you a knock down or knock out, but other than that it scores the same as a regular punch on the cards. So if nobody was knocked down... then you count them as just landed punches.

People who think Cotto won need to learn how to score fights properly. Cotto was more active moving around the ring, but it was ineffective movement as Canelo had no problems timing him and was landing the sharper and cleaner punches. Cotto actually started the fight looking confident and did well in the opening rounds, but as the fight progressed he became increasingly tentative due to Canelo's sharp power punching, and he began limiting himself to weak arm punches that were often off the mark, or had little on them when they managed to get through Canelo's defense. Every once in a while Cotto would launch an attack and load up on his shots in an attempt to change the momentum, but he'd get the worst of those exchanges as Canelo is dangerous inside. Overall, it was a competitive fight, but Canelo had the upper hand with his superior offense and defense. One more thing, although the HBO crew had Canelo winning, I didn't think they gave him full credit for his performance because they repeatedly suggested he was primarily winning due to his size advantage even though Canelo mostly outboxed/outpointed him from the outside rather than imposed his size. And the reason Canelo generates power isn't solely due to his size like they suggested-- Canelo has always been recognized as a heavy handed fighter throughout his career, and unlike Cotto, he carries power in both hands and was fully committing to his punches because he has confidence in his accuracy.
@lolazo21

Non of that, the only thing that made this fight a one sided fight was the fact that Canelo didn't feel Cotto punches because he was like 20 pounds of difference that Canelo had over Cotto

Great fight!!! Canelo was hitting Cotto with bombs and in the process Cotto showed a rock solid chin!! No knockdowns, neither fighter was seriously hurt, both fighters we're able to stay on their feet for 12 hard rounds and give everybody a great show!!!! The way Cotto was able to fight back after being hit by some of Canelo's bombs was very admirable!!! Don't see too many fights like this anymore,if only the greats of yesteryear like Marlon starling, Michael Nunn and Iran barkley could've fought either Cotto or Canelo would've been a real treat for boxing fans. Just like Cotto and Canelo those other 3 fighters are real warriors!!!!

I can't tell why Canelo is ducking GGG n prefering to fight bums. I mean, he's very good n i see him posing problems to GGG. I guess he feels he would not be able to outpunch GGG not to talk of matching GGG's stamina, or, that Swarmer>boxer logic i don't know, but that fight must happen sooner rather than later. Fighters shouldn't be allowed to duck as they see fit. We want a tornament where all he top guns fight each other so we can see the best, all this ducking rubbish is not good for thr sport.

Way to Big for Cotto! Looked like a Super Middleweight fighting a Welter. 155 is not Canelo's weight, he severly dehydrates to make the weight then steps in the ring at around 175 pounds and dominates smaller opponents. Canelo has improved a lot! Still doesn't want to fight Golovkin at 160 because he knows the Catch weight is his advantage. Still think Canelo beats GGG with boxing skill.

Yea that was impressive. I have gone back and seen some of his earlier fights. He uses the jab so well in them. Abel Sanchez said before he trained GGG he style was similar to that of a Klitschko. So GGG could be a master technician boxer if he wanted to be I believe.
