This all purpose, 'heavy lift' military transport aircraft was introduced into service with the RAF in 1955. Designed for long ranges, it would carry both troops and heavy loads simultaneously.

In the early 1960s I used to para out of the Beverley and it was always a good jump due to its lower jump speed compared with the later aircraft. Happy days indeed!

When I a kid in Singapore I was always impressed by the thundering Beverley passing overhead.

Love to see these videos about such fantastic machines - but the brave people working and flying with them, are the real stars.

We had to wait for the A400M to have a plane that could do everything the Beverley did (except one). The Beverley sometimes showed as TWO blips on radar because of the size of the tailplane.

Fun fact: the RAF now has as many operational Hercules as they do Beverleys.

Remember seeing them being scrapped at Bicester

Sadly, Fort Paull closed in 2020. The Beverley was sold and partly dismantled for a proposed move to the nearby former RAF Ricall, but it now looks likely that it will be scrapped!☹

Flew in one at RAF Thorney Island (Transport Command) early 60s during my ATC annual camp. Had to climb up into the tail boom where they had the seats. At least it didn't shake, rattle and roll like the Hastings!

We should have at least one of every aircraft that served in a museum. Unfortunately it's too late for the earlier years, but it should go back as far as possible.

Was struck by this a/c as a 3-yr-old looking thru a 1955 Green military a/c pocket book; have always retained a great fondness 4 its straightforward purposefulness w/in N oldworld tech style. Didn't know 'bout the hole in the boom floor (looks like fun)
