Classic Car and Truck Junkyard Tour. Which Vehicle Should We Rescue?

Hi folks. I went out to a couple junkyards today looking for parts for an upcoming top secret project, so I figured I'd take the camera along and do a quick tour. Both yards have a good selection of cars and trucks from the 1920's up to the 1970's. Long story short, I found a vehicle so pathetic that I had to rescue it! More metalwork videos to come, but I thought it would be fun to take a break from that to check out some of the old tin we have laying around in Saskatchewan.

@@CarterAutoRestyling There's also a Mercury pick up around 5:20 that looks pretty mint + a green disco era Mustang around 7:30, a 77-79 2 door Diplomat around 8:20 that would make a good Daily, the red 2 door '69 Impala, the '61 Fury with the crushed roof (piece of cake for you)....I think you need those as well. The '67 Polara I mentioned in my previous comment is actually a '68 2 door Monaco. It's one you don't come across too often.

With every single car I saw, I heard a little voice in my head that said, "a guy could fix that up" Which proves how sick I am. So with that in mind I am unqualified to guess which piece of garbage you fell in love with. I also realized how unfair life is that all my local junk yards like that are gone.

old American cars and trucks are the most beautiful ever produced in the world, you can stick you're Lamborghinis, Porsche, Ferraris and tiramisu's lol. A work of art all of their own even in that condition, I don't know if I'm the only one but they all seem to talk to me. God bless America, we don't have yards like that anymore in the UK, legislation prevents it. Good job I don't live over there, I'd have to find a way of getting them all home, especially those cute model T type, almost nothing left of them to see but still give a big impression of standing tall. thanks for taking the time to video and share. 73 from UK

I was out at the Maymont site in November, 2020. Seems he had a lot more vehicles, mostly trucks, back then. Which is odd, since he was asking arms, legs, and organ donations for every heap on the lot. There was a Studebaker ute that looked a likely candidate for revival, but my heart wasn’t in it.

He sold a lot of them out east last year. I have bought a few from him as well, prices are reasonable compared to what others are asking around here.

Kyle thanks for the tour through the field of dreams and some nightmares! Walking the yard must be like going through a candy store for a skilled guy like you. My guess on the vehicle you bought is the 1936 Maple Leaf. Whichever one you bought I'm sure is a great choice and will now be in good hands! All the best in motoring, Kelly

I liked the cars in the Maymont lot better. Only some kinds of people like to go shopping in old junk yards. Most folks want to shop in malls for brand new, finished goods. We don't have much in the way of junk yards like that in the California foothills where I live, but we do have lots and lots of older guys who have cherried-out antique cars with expensive paint jobs, nice upholstery, tricked-out engines -- the whole bit -- tucked away here. Quite a bit of money gets spent on these cars.

The blue Studebaker @ 8:00 was sweet. Did you get the 5 window @ 17:50? I saw some corner windows in your shop. That was fun. A lot of familiar old faces. I like seeing all the old Mercury trucks as well as the Maple Leaf. Dis you get the Maple Leaf? That would be pretty cool. Rare.

Can't even begin to make a selection, was mesmerized by all the rusted metal. I could actually hear the metal rusting in the background or was that music to your ears? The tall " T " in yard 1 and one for spares in yard 2 then again still to much metal to catch your eye. I guess I'll just wait in suspense along with everyone else.

You showed the glass, so my guess is one of the late 40’s/early 50’s Chubby 5 window pickups. Personally, I’d have gone home with the cab and front clip of the Green 53 Ford at 12:00 and the white Merc COE right after. The Second yard had way too many cool ones to list, but a lot of them looked really rough for me to tackle. Edit: I guess my guess was late. Now those yards are great for picking! Saw quite a few I wouldn’t mind having because a guy could save them no problem as long as there’s one solid piece. 😂 Down here in Arkansas USA most people were poor and would end up scrapping a lot of vintage tin. So classic car graveyards are few. That’s why dad and I are making our own to our family’s disappointment. 😂 I couldn’t even guess on which one you would’ve picked up. The few that stood out to me was the 1960ish mercury m100 (USA didn’t sell them here, although one or two do pop up), the Oldsmobile Toronado because who doesn’t like old school front wheel drive, the 1938/39 ford truck, and just any of the random late 40’s early 50’s f1s. Any way it goes, I’m excited to see what you snagged up!
@CarterAutoRestyling

That's awesome your making your own car graveyard! This part of the world was hit hard during the depression so people never threw anything away and the thrifty mentality got passed down through the generations. It's not uncommon to find 50s and 60s trucks still being used on farms.
@alexhickey8869
@alexhickey8869 2 жыл бұрын
@@CarterAutoRestyling No doubt! I still see some 70’s/80’s trucks being used on farms in my area, but for some odd reason people like to buy $90,000 tin metal trucks to show off what they don’t own. 😂 And thank you for supporting my own poor decision making! Vintage tin is getting harder to find, so collecting when I can is a fun challenge. Fixing them on the other hand is going to be way more fun. 😁

My guess is the 53 Chev pick up listed at $1,500. The glass you showed at the beginning, indicating it was for a summer project, will work on that truck. You're lucky to have those kind of junk yards in your area. My area (Vancouver) no longer has any :( Love the videos!!

No idea which one of the beauties you chose, but I’m sure you’ll have fun with it and thank you for the tour, like everyone else, certainly don’t find many yards like that these days, only modern junk that you can’t fix body wise unless you’ve got skills in paper mache, maybe origami or maybe possess a hot glue gun, blue tack, gaff tape and super glue, but I’m sure you could pick up those skills as we’ve seen your lovely work with rebuilding drills etc and offering sacrificial items to the fire gods, love it thanks for sharing 🙂👍
