In my recent 1000 miles trip with the 500, I hit 73mph downhill... I think I didn't overrev it but I can't be sure with no rev counter... (I chickened out even tho there was more downhill road xD). So it might go slightly faster with a turbo, but it wouldn't be really viable on the original engine because you would get in all sorts of reliability issues, overheating due to the air cooling and the small oil sump, overrevving due to the supershort gears... On the other hand, when you start modding the 500 engine there is no limit to the imagination... Sometimes soon I will review a 500 with an engine that can go up to 8k rpm (original redline is at 4500). :D

Maybe I should subscribe to you to see that then. yeah you're right about it would over heat since it is just air cooled, if I had a fiat 500 I would like to rebuild the original 500 cc engine with better engine parts, a turbo, intercooler, radiator and cold air intake (if all that will fit, cooling the engine is most important.) I don't know if it is possible to switch out the differential for one that has a taller gear ratio. I want mine to do atleast 85mph because that is the highest speed limit in the USA, but I guess it don't matter since I don't live in Texas, I live in West Virginia where the highest speed limit is 70mph. Does your's have seat belts? I'd have to have those installed. Thanks for answering my questions.

First of all thanks for subbing! It's pretty easy to make it go 85...in fact the original 695 SS Abarth or 650 NP Giannini both were able to exceed that (they are rare and expensive tho :(). All you need is less than 1k worth in parts and you can make 40ish hp instead of the original 18! I've seen 500's that go 100-120mph, and at that point you need balls bigger than the engine... Yeah mine has seatbealts, but they aren't original so I don't really trust them, and it's legal not to wear them since the car came without them :)

I wouldn't switch the engine to the bigger 650. I'd keep the 500 and turbo it. I just hope the rpm's won't max out. But I might not have that problem if I take the engine apart and rebuild it with better pistons and heads, it will make the 4,500 rev max higher like you said and it wouldn't be a problem.Thanks for talking about your car with me, I really enjoy it.

Well that would be interesting! Giannini used to make the 500 TV, with the 498cc engine and 25hp that was good for 80ish mph, sooo... ;)

It's completely stock, 499.5cc, 18hp @4600 Rpm. I wanna take it to a dyno and measure it tho, I'm gonna make a video about that!

Wow, that's a really really small engine!! I'm actually surprised that it can go up over 60mph, very nice. Can't wait to see how it goes at the dyno!
