Silly title perhaps, but Enthusia packs some awesome visuals, excellent tracks and loads of licensed cars in this underrated racing game for the PS2. CGR Enthusia video review features Enthusia gameplay recorded from PlayStation 2 showing Enthusia driving game play in HD action. Drive cars like the BMW M1, Nissan Skyline and Audi A4 as you earn Enthu points (???) and level up your driver and cars. Unlock new tracks and win cars at random as you make your way to the number 1 ranked driver in the world. While Enthusia has its flaws related to the unique level up system, subtle road feel and constant red flags it remains an awesome driving game on the PS2 worth playing today.

This game was quite ahead of its time. It utilized G-Force measurement diagnostics, racing penalties, tire temperature, hydroplaning, steering input measurements, tire scrub, tunnel vision, working clutch, and even a horn. With a steering wheel, you could even program turn signals into the game. There are many simulators made even today which don't offer that level of detail. When I lived in Japan, I became close friends with a guy who had won two Formula 2 Championships and is now in Super GT, and he swore that this game was the best driving simulator ever made.

your friend was absolutely right..sorry to see that the masses will never value the real gems. Enthusia was by far the most realistic but least popular game .I always did and still feel sorry for konami for delivering such a fantastic product yet never seen it getting the attention it deserved

This game is so underrated. Konami is totally to blame for that. Great, great soundtrack. Beautiful graphics. Surprisingly well done driving feel. Konami had something here. Sad they never kept this up as a full on series.

Many triple A companies wanted to see they wanted to make a GT like game for them GT sales. Well obviously they gave up real fast aside from Microsoft with FM.

I actually picked this game up last night. It is quite good, and can definitely compete with GT4. For an '05 release, it still looks rather gorgeous today.

if it wasn't for GT4 or if it was released in 2003 or 4, then this could have done really well, and maybe they would have made a few sequel. Never even heard of this but it looks really good, hopefully I get a copy someday

Definitely liked this better than GT4! It just had a different and refreshing feel, and I liked how it penalized you for having a faster car or crashing too many times.

4:40 That Volvo V70R was one of the best cars i have in the game, i used it for almost all of my playtime

I haven't been sure about grabbing this game. My local game store has had it for $.99 for quite some time now, but this actually clears things up for me and it looks decent. I kind of wish I could see this more as a PC MMO with its leveling and reward system.

Konami should make a sequel of this game and call it "Enthusia 2: Pro Evolution Racing". But, looking from what they did recently... I thing Enthusia 2 will never happen.

I remember official PS mag in Australia giving this like 5 or 6 out of 10. Not the best driving game of the generation but very underrated at the same time.

Damn I hated this game, it killed 2 Logitech DFPs too many drift sessions with friends :D I had GT4 first but when I've bought Euthanasia the GT4 disc got lost somewhere since driving wise Enthusia was so much better i didn't care it was graphically and content wise inferior, having fun on tracks like Nordschleife,Tsukuba and the Touge track was just bloody awesome. Peace :P

i agree ,in a way it was more immersive as gran turismo the mclaren f1 was awesome ,,and the classic 2cv citroen and vw beetle looked great for a model,very realistic wheel ffb much better as gt

Yeah Mark thanks for this nice review! And this intro I laughted for half an hour.. XD seriously what a joke! Now I got my own copy of Enthusia. It's Such a wonderful game and so fun to play! So bad it stayed in GT4's shadow. But honestly the controls are SO GOOD ! Accurate realistic automatic transmission and assisted wheel, nice tires model.. Every single aspect is slightly better than Gran Turismo. The game is only missing some more content and it would have tackle GT4 with no doubt

The PS2 is a grea retro console, maye the best retro console of all time. Games look dated, yet they still look decent. Even Turismo 3 an 4 still hold up.

I like this game as it has vehicles that aren't found in many other games such as the land Rover range Rover, Chevy Astro, smart for two, Toyota Land cruiser, VW Tuareg v8, Toyota minivan hybrid and it lets you drive them in a dirt track meant for motocross.

This game was okay but once you played GT4 you basically wanted to sell your copy of Enthusia. However I thought the music was quite alright I would play this every night in 05 and after I was done I would basically fall asleep immediately because the music and atmosphere was relaxing.

At the 5 min mark when the BMW M1 was racing I could hear the Toyota GT-ONE Race Car and Road Car and the Polyphony 001, Sauber Mercedes C9 from Gran Turismo 3 and 4 Respectively

This is by far one of my favourite racing title of the 2000s. There were so many great racing titles in the 2000s: Enthusia, Burnout 3: Takedown, Need for Speed: Underground (which by the way, are three of my favourite games ever), Gran Turismo, etc. Enthusia was my favourite out of all of them. The soundtracks were masterpieces, great selection of cars, and also amazing visuals, even today. I will never forget this game. I would use the Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 and max that out in all the races I had.

Enthusia an awesome game? Seriously, this game has one fatal flaw that forever makes it inferior to GT4 - the point system. When a car driven by the game's ai crashes into me, I get the point penalty? No racing series on the planet penalizes the person getting hit unless the person getting hit caused an accident. This flaw is unforgivable and the game is not a must have.

I have to agree with 'Tin Pham' here, the physics in Enthusia may not be perfect, but way superior to GT4's. The main problem with GT4's is that overstear is non existent. You can have a 1100hp+ TVR and the only way to get the back of the car out is to handbrake, how is this realistic? Also the understear is just a bit extreme to be called "sim". I do find this game a really good simulator to be fair. Forza has easy to catch overstear, but this game really makes you fight for control of the car

Ever notice that racing games that license actual cars never show them getting damaged. (At least in the older games, anyway.) Never could figure that out. Seeing a Porsche get mangled wouldn't make me want one any less.

His review is real dadgum bland. Enthusia is golden, treasure, just not a lot of marketing promotion. Beyond GT3, GT4 even He mentions nothing of the physics, in fact the physics guy(s) went to Gran Turismo 5. What do you expect, CGR guy rides in wimpomatic and adventure camera lol.

I disagree with the arcade statement. The physics in this game is way more realistic than GT4 or forza. Some PC sim players have even called enthusia sort of like a live for speed LITE version. The physics in enthusia are better than GT5 and next gen console games, granted you have a driving force pro. There's a video on youtube someone of a guy accelerating a car into a curb in enthusia and spinning out just like in real life. That's attention to detail.

interestingly enough this game has better physics than granturismo 4 ,some of the creators of this are now working with PD and helped in the physics department of GT5 and GT5 Prolouge

This and DT Racer are my two favorite PS2 racing games by far, unfortunately just like DT Racer it's literally impossible to find unless you're just plain lucky. I found my pre-owned copy in a Tradition/EB Games/GameStop store in another town, I had never seen one in stores or online before or after that so I consider myself extremely lucky to have found a copy of Enthusia at all, I looked for so many years without finding it I never even bothered to look at the price tag, I just had to have it!

Just look on live for speed forums using google search and you'll see lfs players praising enthusia. It's physics are far greater that the GT series. I never said enthusia was comparable to a pc sim like LFS, but I called it a LITE version, most people do consider enthusia to be the true console sim. Here's some proof a video a guy made of enthusia's physics: /watch?v=mjan7JeBtWo There's actually correct oversteer among other things in enthusia. Of course nothing compares to pc sims.
