Classic Game Room HD reviews BLAZING LAZERS for Turbografx-16 from Hudson Soft and Compile released in 1989 for PC-Engine and TG-16. This is a vertical scrolling old school style shmup for Turbografx 16 which kicks blazing lazer ass! Blazing Lazers is also available on Nintendo Wii Virtual Console and a must buy for shooter fans! Take on Dark Squadron and its arsenal of space ships and end bosses with your Gunhed fighter. Collect power ups and mow down enemies for a high score as you rock this enjoyable 16-bit vertical scrolling shooter!

Yep, this shooter was developed by Compile, the same company who did MUSHA for the Genesis, Zanac and Gun-Nac for the NES, and Space Megaforce for the SNES. Their shooters always rock!!

One of my favorites. Lots of nostalgia for this game. My uncle had Turbografix 16 in his "computer room." Every time I went there with my parents, I escaped there to play Blazing Lazers and Bonk's Adventure.

One of the best shooters ever. An incredibly fun game with state-of-the-art-for-1989 graphics and great songs and sound effects. An absolute blast to play! Important: every time you stack the letter power up (H/S/M/F) you get another bomb.

I had that game on my TG-16, back in the 90's. I once played it all thru the end, where I could see the generic. Too bad I did not record that game on VHS (back then.....) I wanna find it back on some emulator.

It works just fine and better than a VCR. I've done it with an NES and had great results. He could also get a DVR/PVR or DVD recorder to replace his VCR. Most of them take all the same connections and more. (Wow. So many thumbs down. Was my question that bad???)

@ioport Actually, the Turbografx/PC Engine had an 8bit CPU that was extremely fast - faster than the SNES and at least as fast as the Genesis/Mega Drive. It had two 16bit graphic chips and was able to display 482 out of 512 colours on screen at once. The Turbografx 16/PC Engine, especially the PCE, was able to stay in the game through three different gaming eras - the 8bit, 16bit, and even into the 32 era. OBEY

I played this on my TG16 last night for probably an hour or more and got to area 5 with ease but then kept getting blown out of the sky by the relentless onslaught of easter island statue blasts and pyramid missles. Super fun high score of around 1,250,000 and I absolutely love the audio in the game.

Compile developed, or helped to develop the BEST or at least some of the best shooters ever, including the Aleste series (Power Strike, M.U.S.H.A., Space Megaforce, Power Strike II, Robo Aleste, etc.). I ve always seen Blazing Lazers as a sort of spiritual predecessor or sequel to the Aleste series, as well as The Guardian Legend. Also, Compile programmed the Sega Master System version of R-Type, and made the absolutely beautiful and awesome Golvellius. Anyway, I freaking LOVE Compile! :)

Interesting to see the ship (from 2:08 - 2:13) actually flying when the ship itself has been blown up and is gone - not many aircraft are built well enough to fly with one main wing - and no body. :)
