Someone broke into our house and stole our Genesis with all of the games. When insurance settled with us, we got a CDX and it was awesome.

IgoByaGo Wow, that's both sad and awesome at the same time. Sad because you lost your classic Sega Genesis and games but awesome because the CDX goes for quite a bit nowadays and it also enables you to play Sega CD games along with music audio CD's and Sega Genesis cartridges like Mark said in this video.

If you own a model 2 Genesis, go for the individual CD attachment. Much more affordable. However, if you own the Model 1 Genesis, I would recommend going for the CDX, as the Model 1 CD attachments are much more expensive. Although you can get the model 2 CD to work, just takes a lot more parts.

Why was the CDX so awesome back in its day? For taking your console to a friend's house without needing a backpack full of adapters, a power strip, and what not. I never did like the Sega CD that much, but always loved the design of the CDX.

+Dustin Nunn It originally was the prototype for the Sega Giga Drive/Sega Mars that SEGA of Japan had developed in 1991. They send it to SOA in Early 1993 with instructions to "design a stand alone prototype with System 32 Arcade chips for release in 1994". Fearing a retail flop and afraid of losing Genesis US marketshare, SOA instead designed an upgrade for Genesis called "Genesis 32" in the form of a Cartridge based attachment. Called "32X".

Probably the coolest combo console I've ever come across was a JVC X'EYE I found at a yard sale for ten bucks. Research tells me this was the American version of the Wondermega, and I absolutely ADORED it. The unit was tough as nails, and even though I bought it used I never once had an issue with it playing ANYTHING. The only problem I had was a lack of a six-button controller, but that was hardly an issue for the games I had on the thing (Mad Dog McCree a complicated game is not.) Anyone think Mark will ever get a hold of one of these? They seem to be pretty expensive.

Not only is the cdx smaller & compact but it also saves you alot of wallet power and adaptors and space, am astonished how sega was able to shrink down their technology down into 1:6 the size of a genesis & mega cd combined, this is mind blowing considering it dates back from the mid-90's.
@thegamingchef3304
@thegamingchef3304 7 жыл бұрын
Lol the 90's was also the best time to be a gamer. Yes there were some garbage consoles that didn't last long. But it was fun to see so many companies and consoles on the Market. I think Segas brain trust was trying to hard to see into the future with many of their console failures instead of focusing on what was in front of them. Often times when you see people trying to predict the future they have outlandish ideas...Like look at one French picture from I believe the late 1800's trying to predict the year 2000. It had flying fire fighters & stuff. You want to be innovative but not outrages.

I’m up late at night watching 1990’s video game videos. I’ve watched: #1. The history of 3DO #2 Why Saturn failed #3 a play through of SHINOBI X #4. A review of PS classic #5. A review of NES classic #6. A review of SNES classic #7. A review of TG16 classic #8. WHY DREAMCAST FAILED #9 CDi #10 TOP 10 WORST GAME CONSOLES #11 CDX I always wanted a CD X but when I was a kid $300 for one of these was kind of like asking your parents to spend $1000 now. It’s funny that now that I am 38 years old and I have so much money that I can go out and buy any video game console I want I still can’t bring myself to bring up enough desire to buy one of these off of eBay. I kind of want the CD X, the Turbo Express and Turbo Duo because I still have leftover advertising in my mind from 25 years ago It would be nice to have a single classic console with all the Master system, Genesis, 32X, Saturn, SEGA CD, and Dreamcast games on it.

From all the game reviewers/commentators/analysts I´ve seen on youtube I like lord karnage the best. you make the clips with a fresh and appealing approach putting things simple while remaining informative rather than turning them into a boring forecast report. although PC gaming is not the medullar line of your project I would like to perform a request as your never ending mission to review everything should include PC by definition, being it part of the everything. I would like to ask you to review Battlefield 1942 if possible including its both expansion packs and some mods like forgotten hope 0.7, it is a very addictive game given the online multiplayer experience but still I might not know some things about it. It is free to download and play as are its mods so that would not be an issue, Hope it can be done....... :)

Castlemaster712 Yes, but if he has to choose between the current gen and old gen, I assume he's not from that era, and has no current generation console, and his PC is not powerful enough. I like old games, but lets get real, modern games are so much better (not all of them, of course). Old systems are fairly cheap, but games for them are fairly expensive, a lot of good titles are considered to be collectible items and can easily cost you as much as the new game, or more. Imagine paying 60 bucks to play a Berzerk or something. Old gen shouldn't be a compromise, most games didn't age all that well. For someone from the current generation, old gen should be a compliment to the modern systems.

I used to have one. You can't use it as a battery-powered console but it could be used as a CD walkman (albeit a very large and heavy one). If you skip to 1:09 you can see the battery cover at the back of the unit. I can't remember if it took 2 or 3 AAs. Whatever it was, you wouldn't get much more than an hour of them.

I've read it can also be used as a portable CD player, so if you get it stolen, you also lose your Genesis and Sega CD.

I had no idea that you can use the 32x on it. on the 32x box it says not compatible. you learn something everyday

Is it compatible with the Power Base Converter? If so it might be the most useful albeit expensive Genesis model out there.

This would be quite a beauty if it also played 32X and 32X CD games.

Lord Karnage how much did this go for when it first came out? I am pretty sure it was quite expensive!

if I recall correctly they debuted at 300.00 dollars and they did not sell very well. it was easy to find them drastically marked down in price after 6 months to a year after they came out.

Wikipedia says about 750€. That's crazy, who did they want to sell that thing to for that price?

Sega sold like 40 million of the CDX AKA Multi-Mega units world wide.for some reason I never saw too many people with one.I picked mine up used for 125.00 back around 1995 or so in great condition.

Well, Wikipedia says 5000, I'm not even sure Sega sold 40 Million Genesis consoles.

Small correction - you mention that the CDX uses the Model 2 power supply - while it will work in the short term, that power supply is not correct and the unit that ships with the CDX is more powerful. A number of people using Model 2 power supplies have eventually had problems with their CDX's. I'd recommend getting a supply equal to the rating of the OEM power supply. I know, for example, that the JVC X'Eye supply is correct for the CDX as well.

I think he was referring to the 32x using the model 2 connector and said power supply by mistake
