This 2003 Jeep Wrangler (TJ) Sport is old enough to buy beer but only has 56,273 original miles!
Welcome my dad's new off-road vehicle to the channel. We give you a walk-around of the Jeep, show the modifications that were done by the first owner, and let you in on what we want to do with it very soon! ALSO... there's some pretty good info on what to look out for when you're buying a classic vehicle. Even with the low mileage, there was a serious safety issue I discovered that we'll tell you all about.

I was going to post this on Tuesday but I wanted to end the year on something awesome! I wanted to give you all my heartfelt thanks for all the support, comments, emails and private messages. This has been a very challenging year. The layoff in September flipped everything upside down. My side hustle became the only hustle. And after applying for a badillion jobs it looks like the future is in my (our) hands. I'm also so done with video games. I think they suck. (I think they suck because they do suck... except Mario Kart.) I'm not sure how this is going to be possible since most videos don't do well, but I have faith that what we've built here over the past 6 years has tons of untapped potential. I want to give you all the best frickin' KZfaq channel to watch I can possibly provide. I want to show how an average dude can get outside his comfort zone, learn new things and explain how to do it yourself. I want to show gratitude to my awesome support network of family and friends who make all this possible. Most importantly, I want to point everyone to what keeps me going even when stuff is hard... which is my relationship with God. Those who know me know how rough it was last time I lost a job... and how different I am this time. That's not because of some sort of magic or because I'm somehow more badass. God and God alone is why I keep going. So look out for a bunch of new stuff coming very, very soon. I'm going to look more into businesses I can partner with. I'll also likely going to launch a fun membership option of some sort for those who want even more of this goofiness. The next few videos will likely be small, fun things. I'm putting a classic motorcycle up for sale that I'll share more about soon since it needs to go. But after that things are going to ramp up quick! God Bless all of You! Happy New Year. I can do all things. Phil 4:13 PS... I drank a lot of coffee today! 🤩

1:58 synthetic is also a fraction of the weight. I’d recommend upgrading to a higher output alternator and doing the Big 7 JeepCable kit to power the new winch and off-road lighting. That TJ is in REALLY good shape. Congrats! 👍

Awesome jeep. I have a 2006 TJ which I got in 2012. I got it with 90,000 + miles on it. It now has 275,000 miles on it. The 4.0 liter engine is a blast to work on and extremely durable. :)

I just did a 14 hour round trip with my sons to see their Pop-Pop and many other family members out of state. Love my '05 TJ Rocky Mtn 4.0L, just past 170K miles, can take it wheelin' one weekend and this long trip the next. The key is meticulous maintenance and keeping it stock or in my case as close to stock as possible. 2" OME coil lift, 32 KO2's, Fox 2.0 Shox and Fox steering stabilizer, Napa HD gearbox and M.O.R.E gearbox bracket has this ole TJ running and handling the best its ever ran! Excellent on and off-road manners and capability. Highly recommend Valvoline 150K+ mile synthetic blend oil and shell gas, idles like a showroom 4.0L I6, avoid lousy wawa gas. Never any need to go beyond 32's, plenty capable and you get to maintain that great 4.0 low end torque. Your TJ looks like it can do it all too!

Bought my first Wrangler in 03. A Rubi new from the showroom floor. Wheeled it all over hells half acre, sold it when it was 10 yrs old (mistake). Had a couple JKs, but was never enamored with them. Finally replaced that '03 Rubi in '22 with an '04 that had 56k miles. Never off-roaded, though it was towed behind an RV and driven through mountain towns. It feels just like home.

Hello Jason, while watchin one of my favorite "Jeep UTubers" your channel showed up at the end. I've been a Jeep fan since 1985 when I bought an "85 CJ7. I also once owned a TJ and seeing the episode about your Dad's TJ caught my attention, but then in your opening "update" you talked about your faith and relationship with God. THAT really touched me. I immediately subscribed for that reason. I'm a Jeeper and will keep an eye out for more Jeep vids. You and your future with the channel will be in my prayers. Take care and "Keep on Jeepin"

I love my TJ. I wish mine was that clean but I guess that’s what happens when you take it off road lol. If it pops out of 4lo consistently you may need to adjust the shift linkage. Pretty easy. Just loosen a 10mm bolt and push or pull the linkage until you get it where you need it be to stay in gear. Or better yet replace it with a cable shifter. That will make it so much easier and more reliable and you don’t have to worry about adjusting again if you do any modifications that would affect it.

Not a Jeep guy per se, but I understand there are small bushings in the transfer case shifter assembly that can go bad and allow the t-case to pop out of 4LO like that. I'm sure a TJ owner will pop in here at some point and confirm.

That is a gem of a jeep with only 56k miles! I drove a 2000 TJ Sport for 11 years. Selling it was a huge regret. I would take a look at changing the spark plugs and if they didn't upgrade the brakes after putting bigger tires, that might be something to look at. The brakes were good for stock tires, but going bigger, I had issues with less braking power. Can't wait to see more videos of this TJ!

@JasonExplainsThings also watch out for the cooling system components. I went through 2 water pumps and a radiator around 110k miles. Also had the torque converter go out around 130k. That was a $3.5k transmission fix, ouch! Other than those things, no issues and it drove through anything.

@@JulianBand YES! In your case it may help you understand FEDERAL mileage laws........... If this gentleman represented this Jeep as an actual 55,00 Jeep should he choose to sell it, it would most likely land him in court. If he says it's EXEMPT and represents it that way at time of sale he'll lose his arse on the resale price. The dealer knew exactly what he was doing and this wasn't his first rodeo. If the dealer was honest and thought the Jeep was misrepresented on miles, he'd offer to repurchase up if asked to. BUT! He would buy it back at an EXEMPT MILES price............ Just saying.................

First thing to check is the mileage statement where you bought it. Is it checked true miles or mileage exempt? Also check for miles on the title. Are the miles on it correct or exempt? If exempt on anything your value just dropped tremendously. Same as miles unknown or not guaranteed. Many dealers tell you anything and guarantee nothing. In which case you way overpaid for unknown miles.

@@JasonExplainsThings That's great that you know them BUT are the miles guaranteed? If not it doesn't matter what you paid it's TOOOO MUCH! I have a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 2005 one owner with the miles on the front of the title and they are guaranteed! That makes it worth MUCH more than a title that says exempt! It may have 200,000 miles on it if not on the title. A dealer will think twice before he guarantees the miles with no odometer statement to back it up! It's called a Federal crime with a STIFF fine and jail time. Now look at your title and read the odometer statement and get back to us here. Folks run all around the internet flashing the odometers with EXEMPT on the title and don't have a clue they have been SUCKERED!
@aevnate4140
@aevnate4140 6 ай бұрын
@@XXPS60 To be fair, all vehicles over 10 years old will be exempt on the title. If you have a chance to see this Jeep you will clearly be able to tell it has low miles based on the condition. With the prices people ask for TJs these days, or most TJs are beat and rusty out there, this one was a fair price. I believe the dealer represented this one truthful, and Jason's dad will have plenty of years of enjoyment out of this true Jeep classic.
@XXPS60
@XXPS60 6 ай бұрын
You are absolutely wrong in saying all vehicles over 10 years will be exempt. As I said, my 2005 Jeep Rubicon has the miles on front of the title GUARANTEED by the DEALERSHIP I purchased it from last year! The miles are documented all the way down the line and the dealer would not EXEMPT any title UNLESS he was out to GET YOU! the value of the Rubicon I own is that the miles are GUARANTEED to me under penalty of law. When I sell this 2005 Rubicon I will WARRANTY the miles and they will appear on the new owners title. You sir sound like you have been taken advantage of...........@@aevnate4140
@XXPS60
@XXPS60 6 ай бұрын
If the salesman that sold you this Jeep is in your Bible study class pray for him that he gets something from it since he took you and your money. Federal LAW dictates the miles are on the title! The only way a dealer exempts them is if he suspects the odometer is not TRUE! Or he absolutely knows they are not true! It hurts the value of a vehicle to do this and of course true and accurate LOW miles always help the sale. I hate to tell you this but when you sell this Jeep you also can't guarantee the miles which hurts the sale and the value. Of course you can always find another vulnerable buyer such as yourself who doesn't know or understand the LAW! I use to know a salesman who sold used cars and had a BIBLE on his desk......... He claims it helped the sales.............
