Back in May, I spent a couple days exploring and photographing the Olympic Peninsula again. And what a difference a month makes… My previous trip in late April still felt like winter, but it seemed to have skipped right past spring and into summer out there. The forests had exploded into green chaos and a lot of the snow up in the mountains seemed to have melted.
Video 1 of 2 from this trip.

Yeah, more Olympics! I visited 4 times last year so it makes me happy to hear you have been there 10 times! The mossy tree comp was fantastic by the way.

Awesome video. I just booked a trip to go to this national park next month. Super excited to get some photography in. I plan on bringing my 85mm and 15-35 F/2.8 L.

Beautiful work as always!! I don't understand how you find such beautiful compositions! I wanted to ask as a fellow videographer, now that you've been to Washington for a while, which one do you like more, Washington or Colorado? I want to move out of Florida and I cannot decide!

Thanks! They're both beautiful, but for me, Washington, hands down. I love the rain though... From a photo perspective, I think there are many more types of environments here to shoot year-round, it's much more colorful and verdant, and I just absolutely love having easy access to the ocean. Colorado has better skiing, but the mountains here, on average, are more photogenic (all of this is subjective). I loved my life in Colorado, but I'm particularly happy living here in Washington. It's the first place I've lived (state number 7...) where I truly feel like I could happily live here for the rest of my life.

@@BrianLackey Thank you so much!! I really appreciate your answer! Do you feel camping is harder in Washington because of the rain? It’s been so hard to choose, and I agree the rain/mist makes it so much more photogenic. I’m from a part of Greece that looks very similar to the Cascades so I’ve been looking to find a similar place in the US for the longest time! I’m visiting mid September for 10 days to explore Seattle and the surrounding mountains/national parks to make up my mind, and I can’t wait!!

@@paulhatzig7084 September/October is my favorite time of year here, by far. Keep in mind that you'll be visiting in the best part of the year and it won't give you much of a feel for the long, drizzly, dark winters. But, there's not really a good way to test that out without moving here. I'll also say that, as far as the cities themselves go, I prefer Seattle to Denver. Just feels like a slightly more walkable, more diverse, more fun city. Still an American city, with all of the problems that come with that, but I do like it here. Regarding camping, easy peasy in the summer, since it's actually surprisingly dry here from July through September (drier than Phoenix some years). The rest of the year, yeah, the rain makes it harder. Enough to where I just usually get hotels on trips from November through February and camp in my car, rather than a tent, the rest of the year. Nowhere's perfect though, and I'll personally take cold and rainy over hot and sunny most of the time.

@@BrianLackey Haha same here. I’m sick of the Florida heat. And you can’t beat the diversity of landscapes of Washington. I agree Seattle looks much more lively than Denver. When I visited Denver I liked it more than Tampa, but walkability was nonexistent except in small pockets . I’ve never lived in a place that is very gray but after living for 10 years in Tampa I don’t mind a change! Thank you so much for the advice and I wish you the best with your channel. You are an inspiration man!!
