Classic Traditional Mumbai Indian Street Barber Wet Shave

This was second video we filmed in Mumbai, India in 2017! We aimed to share three experiences that showed some diversity within the urban core of Mumbai's metropolis.
I saw couple street side barbers as we were driving to Dharavi Slum to film our skin-fade haircut experience. The street barbers were perfectly set along the side of a road along with other venders selling all the necessities needed for daily life in the community.
I knew immediately I wanted to film at one of the shops so after we filmed the haircut we returned to this street and filmed this wet-shave experience!

I thoroughly enjoy/enjoyed watching! As similar as Indian Street and Kiosk-type barber shop( & barbers) shaves go there is a very subtle yet distinct difference in their technique and approach. Thanks for the presentation.

In the same way that I strive to only say things about other people that I would say to their face, I try to keep the same mindset when traveling. I like that Harry always keeps this level of basic decency in his videos and when responding to comments. It's disappointing to see so many of the top comments being jokes about the supposed lack of cleanliness, presence of waterborne diseases, lack of proper licensing, etc. Like many people in the comments, I think it's okay to talk about these things as personal experiences or topics of conversation, but to make jokes about them at the expense of these people just trying to make a living or the locals for whom this is the normal, I feel like it lacks a level of respect for one another. Someone in the background of this video said that this video is just going to showcase the poverty in India to audiences, which I don't think Harry is doing here. I actually loved this India series. But if those same guys were to read some of these comments, I would be sad to say that they were not totally wrong that this is what some people will take away from this video. And I think it would be pretty offensive to make some of these same jokes to their face considering this is their normal and upward mobility is so difficult in India and many other parts of the world.

Awesome vid. Hard to believe they fit 2 chairs in each of those boxes. Some of the surroundings look a little “worn”. Any plans to release any of the non-haircut/shave footage that you used in the India trailer as a type of vlog from the trip?

I got a shave in Cuzco Peru. It was around $3 u.s but so much cleaner . Still I would do this in India. Every country I go to i get a haircut but not always a shave .

Around 8:00 the others in the shop are commenting how this guy(Harry) is going to show people, poverty in India. "Why is he shooting here? So that he can show 'them' ". While I love watching the different barbers with their own unique styles from all over the US and some from other countries too; there's never a ghetto haircut video. I understand Harry considers the "local flavor", but there's more than just slums and poverty to a country!

Hi Shuparman - thanks so much for watching and commenting! Pity I am not fluent in all languages, as had I understood this at the time I would have clarified the intent with them! We were certainly not filming to create some kind of video voyeurism into poverty and slums! We are using the barbershop setting as an insight into people, places, and culture. While in Mumbai, we aimed to film in three locations that show some of the diversity of this city and Indian. This video was the classic street-side barber as a part of a vibrant local community and economy. The previous Mumbai video was showing young barbers redefining their trade as career they enjoyed and wanted to be a part of rather than the barbering being a multi-generational social expectation. The third video we filmed in Mumbai, yet to be posted, was a high end barbershop that is a great example of how India is being redefined by many creative and inovative Indian men and women. I hope that viewers of our videos also see the commonalities around the world and us all as 'people' working and earning a living to feed, cloth, and provide shelter for ourselves and families! :-)

Thanks for replying, Harry! The point you mentioned does make sense. But like I mentioned in my comment, there are no haircut videos shot in the ghetto in some city in the US to showcase these things you speak of. Dharavi, on the other hand, is the largest slum in Asia. The disparity is what I was pointing to.
