Another little gem from my video archives this is a nice 1979 440 Maico Magnum. These pictures were taken at Titnto Moto Parc in Lanarkshire Scotland in 2016.

Thank's Chris!! In the beginning eighties I saw Schmitz riding 490 Maico in France ..I never seen such powerfull feeling when he grabbed the holeshot and wheelied all the straight track , just after the first turn !!! Whaaa this stayed in my mind for ever!!! Amazing still today😄😄😄 Richard 👍😎🇫🇷

Love your videos and now with everyone at lock down we can still watch your videos, I have a 1981 490 that I blast around the block once in a while, just wish I had a place to ride, thanks for the videos

Thanks James That's possibly the main reason I'm going through my archives due to being confined to home, as normally at this time of year I would be doing the rounds at Classic and Vintage race events collecting new material for my channel. Thanks for your Comments and thanks for watching.

Yeah I’m on the east coast about a hour from Budds Creek mx track and our first race of the season for vintage mx is first weekend of April but it’s canceled and they don’t even have the track open for practice so if you don’t have any land to ride on I sir home and watch your videos and old races

When I was a kid everyone was racing Honda, Yamaha, mostly and I always have to be different, but this was late 60s and early 70s and I used to watch the Europeans come over here to the USA riding Bultaco, Maico CZ and loved to watch them race, I wanted to race in Europe so bad because everyone that went over there came back so much faster, anyway I raced Bultaco and ended on a Maico then when I hit my second childhood I went back to Maicos

I had one back in high school. It was fit with custom reed valves & mikinn. Should of never sold it. Great power & throttle response. Could wheel through every gear, was an awesome bike. Low channle.

Cable is on the same side as the lever..right side. From maico that way

hi bud, the front brake is mounted on the right hand side of the hub/wheel and the cable goes down the right fork leg. am sure my 79 440 brake setup was on the left hand side. ???? am getting old so i may be wrong.

Derek Warren Hi Derek the Maico’s front brake assembly at least up to the late 70’s was generally run down the right hand side of the bike although at the start of the 1980’s they began to made longer front forks which increased the cable movement. Although the Maico brake can be made to fit the left hand side of the wheel although you will need the longer brake cable and a later 1980’s brake torque arm. This is not done in every Maico case as riders chop and change this feature if and when required but up to 1979 the right hand side was the standard brake fitting side for these bikes. Hope this is clearer for you . . and thanks for watching.
